The rapid re-signing of Monk clearly will impact free agency. Teams can come to deals very quickly with their own players. The Rockets mustn't get desperate to make deals that can hurt them down the line. Trades can cost them an arm or a leg. They should stay the course and revisit the possibility of a trade by the February deadline.
Oh no we missed out on acquiring a $20m/year 3rd string SG for our roster. How will we ever recover from this, going into the season with just two guys who would be top picks in this draft and our coach believes in. For real though, no one is supplanting Green/Whitmore unless they are a star. You want some injury insurance, feel free to use the minimum or room exception. We have bigger fish to fry with our more valuable assets.
That's why I have multiple free agent targets: Malik Monk Malik Beasley Tyus Jones McDermott (members here would rather draft Reed Sheppard..... but I trust the defense of these vets better). I prefer drafting of : Dalton Knecht Devin Carter It's a poor free agent class and poor draft class For bigs (PF or Center) in free agency: Jalen Smith or draft Kel'el Ware Zach Edey
I wouldn't call a dude who was runner up for 6th man of the year a 3rd stringer. He definitely provides value as a scoring punch off the bench which is one thing we packed last season. KOJ was supposed to be that guy. Monk is KPJ without the mental issues.
