Yeah, that’s been one of the more wild takes I’ve seen here this season. He doesn’t belong on a MLB roster of any team serious about winning, much less batting 5th.
We are gonna see just how forward-thinking Crane is. This team ain’t making the playoffs this season. Is the owner gonna dig himself a hole chasing a hopeless outcome, or is he going to see this as an opportunity to barter a lost season into a dramatically more positive long term outlook?
I think it’s just the same group of people that think everybody is good… mainly because they haven’t been exposed as much. One person thought Cabbage could be a 30/30 guy with regular playing time. Now Salazar is being talked up as a potential catcher fixture of the future (especially if this catching thing for Diaz doesnt work out). Diaz, Singleton, Pena, even Meyers… they’re never going to be good enough to play everyday from an offensive standpoint. Pena/Meyers at least good enough defensively to warrant it.
But you’re admittedly biased on what you want them to do… you’ve made similar posts since 2020. He’s not trading anybody of note to give up on 2025. It obvious Crane cares about winning during the last of Altuve/JV…. And during Yordan’s prime. He’s said as much. They also need to be good during the time of the team owning the network… and during the time when they build the attached hotel/entertainment district. Crane, much like Drayton, will piece this together to keep the value up… and then sell the team when it’s been maximized.

Astros next roadie…Mets 3, Toronto 4, then Minnesota 3. Two of those teams are under .500 but that means nothing vs. the Astros in 2024. That may finish them off.
