They should trade down only if Sheppard is picked #1 or #2 otherwise he is the perfect pick for them.
Sheppard has a higher floor. Sarr could have a higher celing(although that is not a given) but could easily be a bust. Our weakness right now happens to be shooting. Sheppard is one of the best ever shooting prospects so it makes a lot more sense to draft him.
I'm a little higher on go Risacher's upside than Sarr as well, but I'd be happy with either on the Rockets. My original post was pointing out that if Sarr was really "forcing" his way onto a team its more likely to be Washington than Houston given the roster construction and opportunity available.
If the Hawks really want Clingan, that means the Rockets have a 50% chance to get a Frenchie. I like all three including Reed. So it doesn't get any better. My parade can only be rain on if the draft Castle. Need shot makers.
Part of me is just hoping Sarr drops to us in a selfish way. Rim protection is an area where if we were to be 'good' it would really usher in an elite level defense. I see Sarr as what I hoped Jabari to be - a rim protecting shooter with switchability. Odds are Jabari would be moved to bench or outright traded if Sarr lands here and that would be bittersweet. I like Risacher and think he will do well eventually, but I dont necessarily like him more than Amen, Tari, or Cam, but if he was given the keys in WAS I could see him have a better shot at development.
I'd do Jalen and a future frp top 4 protected for #6. Cause Jalen and LaMelo on the same team - yeah they're not going to be good lol. Edit: Jalen for 6 and a future top 4 protected pick from Charlotte back to Houston, my bad
Agreed on the rim protection. It seems like you're higher on Sarr's offensive potential than I am. I think its unlikely he matches Jabari's level of offense/shooting, but if his defense is as good as advertised then he might not have to. I also think Jabari is just scratching the surface of his potential so I'd hate to give up on him. But I see the appeal of a Sarr + Sengun frontcourt.
Sarr easily. Sengun needs a better help. Amen, Jalen, FVV, and Cam don't need help. If Sarr can be like porzingus or AD that would be helpful. If you really need shooting you can find that easily.
These are the big men we have that would likely be ahead of Clingan in the depth chart: Sengun Smith Adams Landale Green There are the guards we have that would likely be ahead of Sheppard in the depth chart. VanVleet Green Whitmore I'd say Reed would have more chances to play than Clingan at this point. Of course, the picture might change if trades happen.
