This is the same poster who 1. Hates Fred van vleet and Sengun, our two best players. 2. Loves Kpj and Jalen Green, enough said. 3. Believed the team would win 28 games, and then half way through the season claimed the Rockets were only winning because of a league wide conspiracy to help the Rockets.

Now he hates Sheppard? Sign me the hell up!

Tilman has shared a strong opinion about only one guy and the guy happens to be white. This is worrisome only because we’re talking about Tillman Fertitta.

I trust the FO/coaches to be color blind. I absolutely do not trust Tillman with that. He needs to shut up and stay out of this.

What an "interesting" opinion....I wonder what could be the basis for it....

Damn, people are really going mask off over this aren't they?

Tillman also drunkenly praised Wembanyama last season.

I don't think that is likely, unless the ownership is adamant on selecting him.
I believe Stone does have some autonomy.

Sheppard is less likely to have trade value than Risacher, Saar and possibly even Clingan.

However, it's likely to be a feeler. I also believe the Rockets want to keep rival teams from guessing who they really want down the stretch. I don't think the Rockets have made their mind regarding this draft.

You said that Tilman had a strong opinion for a white player. Is that strongly in favor of him or against him? (Assuming that it's even true)

I genuinely don’t know who you mean by “him”. Can you ask the question without pronouns? What I’m saying is I’m not surprised Tilman likes 1 player and that player is Reed Sheppard.

Not to take away anything from Sheppard’s actual skills. Just a reflection of how I see Tilman. I don’t trust that guy at all.

I think the doubters are looking at the wrong things with Sheppard if they're looking at all, he needs to be evaluated as a point guard, and it really should be noted that almost all similar comps to his size/skill / game-wise (floor general type guys with ok usage but efficient ) were 3-4 college players and it took them usually to year 3 to really figure it out. the fact that Sheppard is a one-and-done, even as a slightly older freshman, means that his stats in models come out at a godlike level.

Here's a comp with Reed Sheppard, they're almost the same size too (same wingspan, Reed is almost certainly a bit taller and almost 10 pounds heavier than when the other guy was drafted.. This player started all his games but only played about 5 more minutes per game, played 2 years but both year had a similar type of stats.

    (Counting stats are per/40)
    Reed Sheppard freshman season.
    17.2 points, / 5.7 rebounds / 6.2 assists/3.4 steals / 1.0 blocks / 2.8 turnovers / .700 true shooting. / 18.0% usage

    Player X freshman season.
    17.7 points/ 3.9 rebounds / 7.0 assists / 3.2 steals / 0.5 blocks / 3.2 turnovers / .645 true shooting. / 19.6% usage

So pretty similar right? Player X less of a rebounder but a bit more on ball, Reed's shot went in a bit more.

Player X is Chris Paul's Wake Forest freshman season.

One can find reasonable bad comps for him too, the most notable would probably be Mario Chalmers, who was also a middling usage, quite efficient semi-point guard, lots of steals / rebound small player. But the degree of Reed's stats is significantly better, especially comparing just freshman year.

I have only two reasons for the rockets to pass on Sheppard really.

    1. His best-case scenario comp is the entire list of best players in NBA history to never win a ring.
    2. The cringy small white guy player take from announcers and articles with him will be off the charts if he's any good.

Reed went from +230 to +125 to go to rockets.

Put your question in the light that Sengun has already proven he can anchor a top 10 defense. We also have Adams and and Landale. Clingan would be a 3rd string center at best and likely 4th. Picking him makes the least sense of anyone in this draft unless the goal is to give the Vipers a center.
