Physical gifts are far more valued than college scoring splits in the draft. That's how it's always been. Amen has near if not generational measurables in terms of his combo of length and agility. NbA coaches see a hyper athlete they can mold into what they want as a player.

Who reported we were leaning Reed? Do you remember?

Can you set aside your apparent belief that you are in an argument with me about should we believe this article by Woo. I legit just want to catch up on news that you seem privy to.

    Help me out here.

I consider you to be more in the loop about this than me, for sure.

Is this the first you’ve heard of “serious interest” in any player by the Rockets this year? No one seems to be helping me out today. I feel like I’ve missed some intel wrt to our Draft Board, and would like to hear who else is saying Reed at #3.

Note, after this by Woo, he’s going to be recycled, so, I’d like to know who else has said it, b4 today. Will help me know who to follow next year, etc.

I'm not super in the know lol... i hear what you hear on the playbacks... maybe I'll reach out to someone...

In any case... i haven't heard anything specific, so I'd consider this:

    1) Somewhat "made up" but based on intel he's received not from the team itself
    2) Intel he received from close to the team, but not the typical intel-leak-sharer (which honestly is mostly the GM himself lol)
    3) Intel from the GM himself

Given the range of outcomes this year, i'm not putting a lot of stock into this either way. I suspect the Rockets DO actually like Reed, but also DO actually want to trade back/out if the price is right.

The tweet that was MUCH MUCH MUCH more intriguing to me today was the one that implied Reed has been in for a workout... as we haven't seen much of that yet...

Definitely no ownership here, only love for the Rockets, Ric Flair, Reed Sheppard, and Donovan Clingan. @T for 3 is the original wooer. Or maybe it’s @Tfor3 yeah… pretty sure it’s the latter.

BTW - I used Edey to debunk height. Height is great. If you’re Kareem. Or Wemby. OR DREAM.

Not many are in that convo. Def not Edey. The Klingon?

BTW - Time Lord was Ime’s 5. Horford, too. 6’9”ers. So what, they play large enough.

    GIMME TALENT. PLESSE!!!

Yeah, you posted that tweet. It’s the same source, Givony and Woo’s article on espn today. Which I suppose means Woo got intel from the workout leading him to say “demonstrated serious interest.”

Just meant I’m pretty positive you’re reading up on this draft intel news more than I am. Pretty much my *only* source is playback, wrt our draft board.

anywoo, thx for confirming that I didn’t miss anything. I’m pretty sure Clutch also sad during Game 5 that e hadn’t heard or read anything about Rockets draft board.

there has to be some story that we are interested in reed along with clingan and others
otherwise it becomes obvious that reed is the only one not being talked about
    which becomes a tell
    stone is playing this great
rumors everywhere that we are going to trade or take clingan or take sheppard or take sarr if he falls
just totally neutral all the way to closing time
that is how to play the front office game

I dont believe this and even if it's true. Some team may likely jump us and draft him #2

Right ... the game of sources upon sources is exhausting. It was from Siddery, who was getting intel from DraftExpress via ESPN (think ESPN owns them now).

Personally, i hope that when draft night comes, we know virtually nothing. It will be much more exciting that way.

I'm worried that this intentional leak means we are not drafting him.

....you are confusing the point there - first off, there is no A+ prospect in this draft. It's a weak draft - period. Vecenie I believe thought this draft started at tier 3 guys and the only debate in the scouting community is whether you think Klingan or Sarr's upside might make them tier 2 guys. Reed potentially going 3 and Amen going 4 in their respective years is purely contextual to the field. Amen could go #1 in this year's draft and Reed would probably be in the 8-15 range in last year's draft. I was on board with Amen last year(although I wanted us to consider trading up) - not so with Reed at the 3rd pick but not because I don't like him as a player(if we traded down to 9 and grabbed him there, I would be all about it), but because it's poor value for the pick as stated earlier.

Amen and Reed have few similarities as prospects. Amen had REAL upside as a raw player with poor shooting but otherwise elite physical and processing/passing tools but very little refinement to his game. In other words he came into the league where we figured he was going to be able to do something as a defender and a guy who could push the break just because of his elite god given physical talents and if he could refine the rawness out of his game and learn to shoot, then he would be our PG of the future and even a potential All Star.

Reed comes in far more refined as a player - he does a lot of things well already but he likely isn't going to grow 3 inches or get longer arms all of a sudden or becomes significantly faster. In other words, the upside isn't there. It's one thing to teach a physically gifted but raw player with unrefined skills the finer skills of basketball - it's quite another to take a guy who knows how to play the game but otherwise is at a physical disadvantage in most matchups and expect upside there. Yeah, he will get better at the skills, but the difference from where they are today and where they could be tomorrow is not as great because the time and effort needed for Reed to improve with his skills is logarithmic, not linear so improvements in skill based achievement won't be as dramatic.

I mean Alex Caruso is a pretty good basketball player with tough defense and respectable 3pt shooting playing the PG position making as much as Reed will be making as the #3 pick - why not just bring Caruso on the team and use the 3rd pick for someone with more upside? You get what I'm saying here?

...and they have one of the most dominant shot blockers of the NBA who can clean up messes if Reed can't stay in front of guys(which by the way - IS one of Reed's weaknesses). Context matters.

I'll say it again - I like Reed, I just don't like him at the 3rd pick. I know we need shooting but in my mind if you are considering him at the 3rd pick, then just give the pick to New York for Divencenzo or Chicago for Caruso - both of whom would be better players for us in the short term and then we could attempt to sign Reed on his first non-rookie deal because I think he will be in the same vein as other undersized but effective role players like the two mentioned above.
