I was against Henderson but I am for Sheppard for one reason only - SHOOTING - which is the most important skill anyone can have, and this kid has it it in bushels. Even if all he ever is.....is the 6th man off the bench, his shooting changes games. We don't need anymore athletes......people keep jumping on athletics......these kids have worked on their game for 10+ years if they can't shoot...THEY ****ING CAN'T SHOOT !!!!! Stop drafting people that suck at the most important aspect in all of basketball. DD
People talking about trading down and still hoping to get Reed. I keep saying if the Rockets pass on him he’s going to San Antonio.
Shooting is most definitely a need on this team but Im against THIS move! To me, its the equation of drafting Jimmer Fredette or a similar prospect at #3. A 6'2, SG is not the answer! If he were 6'5 - 6'7, I would be all over it.
If they keep the pick, I hope they take Sheppard. Having said that, I fully expect them to trade that pick. I'd be beyond shocked if Sheppard is ever on this team.
@AroundTheWorld, today Im starting to get nervous he goes 1 or 2 lmao. I still think theres no way Wiz pass on Sarr though if he's there. Worst case outcome for me is Hawks boldly take Reed and Wiz take Sarr. I think id almost lean Buzelis or trade down in that case.
I think you'll find, even the biggest Reed fans, would be against drafting Jimmer Fredette at #3 lol. Those guys think Reed is going to be really really good, much better than Fredette. Why am I saying this? It seems to be something that gets correlated to his height or sometimes athleticism or whatever. And doesn't happen as much with other players. In other words I hear people say stuff like this, but you don't really ever hear someone say I don't want to draft Thabeet at 3, or I don't want to draft Josh Jackson at 3. Ultimately, you're just saying you don't think he's that good. Noted.
Sure....I don't doubt you'd see it that way despite the fact that the two aren't similar at all... It says more about biases you might have and your player evaluation skills than anything else.
Kentucky guards have a great track record in the NBA. Tyrese Maxey played there and only seems to be getting better every season. Remember he's only 6'2 too.
Im not bias, not by a looooong shot. Based upon his abilities, skillset and qualities, that he brings to the game, who would you compare Reed to?
If you had ever seen the two players actually play, you wouldn't attempt to compare them. I get it though, PG sized white guy equals Jimmer Fredette is about as deep as some can go. When you actually spend the time to watch the tape, you see shades of Steph Curry and shades of John Stockton. Neither of those are perfect, and they are stylistic comparisons, not saying Sheppard will be the next HOF guard.... but those are the guys that come to mind when watching him.
going to copy this over from @J.R. 's post: https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...rd-top-big-board-projecting-best-pro-careers/
he may be the 1 pick anyways if the hawks are smart they take reed at 1 and start a bidding war for him or trae and take the best deal
Yeah, while Curry, Stockton, Nash, Mark Price are "lol" type comps.... Jimmer Fredette is even moreso. That doesn't mean Reed won't turn out HOF tier or bust tier, just they are both outlandish outlier comps on either side at the moment. Everytime I get increasingly excited about a later stage prospect, I go back to Reed and am like, but he just dominated all those dudes in terms of on court play. Like i was doing some research on Bub Carrington. Cause I really like him as a late lotto/teens potential. A "legit" PG with size and an "ok" at least shot (32% form 3... better than Castle and the likes at the topic of the draft). But even on the "true PG" stuff... Reed had a higher ast%, higher ast volume, coming off the bench, despite lower usage%... Don't get me wrong i get the reason for criticism - size, athleticism. If he was 6'5 he goes #1 undoubtedly. If he was 6'5 with just above average (not Jalen, Amen) level athleticism, he goes #1 in many of the past 10 drafts.
