Lord have mercy, you’re a casual OG didn’t even play those playoffs, and none of those guys are non-shooters that was an incredibly dumb post
Obviously he's not a Stockton or Nash. Wasn't my point. I could see a way more athletic FVV with better defense AND shooting. He'd still have to continue to tighten his handle to get to Fred's level, but from everything I've read and all the interviews I've watched, he definitely is a hard working gym rat who's really competitive, tough and most importantly, he LOVES the game. Add all that up and I think he's a perfect fit for the group we have. It's just my take. We have just over a week to see how it plays out. Can't wait!
I meant Siakim, however none of those guys are considered great shooters. Simple mistake Incredibly dumb post? Hmmm
I think everybody in this draft is a crap shoot. Might as well take one that fits our need. Sheppard slightly over Dillingham, because of defense.
Why is it that everyone in the draft has worked out except for those two Kenturkeys??!! Also, my homie Devin Carter continues to move up in the draft from #13 to #12.
Tell me what's the difference between Reed and Kolek? I didn't get a chance to watch much college BB this year other than the tournament.
I've only watched some of Kolek via his breakdown with Sam Vecenie, but I did notice some similarities. For example, they're both about the same size (though Tyler has ~15lbs on Reed), similarish combine numbers (though Reed a decent bit better at vertical), both have good BBIQ/feel, and also...they're both white! So yeah, very similar players (I'm being sarcastic but also making fun of myself because I did kinda think they were sorta similar at first glance). Tyler is older (3+ years), probably not as good of a shooter/efficient scorer, and probably not the defensive playmaker (steals/blocks). But Tyler seems much better at doing PG things, which for Reed seems more like a theory than something we know for sure. He definitely seems to be more comfortable with more usage, securing the ball, etc. I liked what I saw from Tyler, and I'd definitely consider taking a flyer on him depending on the scenario, but given his age and whatnot, he's probably closer to a finished product (good and bad with that). I will say he seems to have a good work ethic and continually works on improving his game....which I can deduce just from a ~60 minute Youtube video interview. Someone else who actually follows this stuff can provide better insight, but that was my takeaway from using the Internetz.
Kolek is a very good player who IMO will contribute as a rotation player in the NBA on his rookie contract. Fantastic passer / PnR operator / floor general, and quality shooter. Typical small PG defensive limitations without any standout defensive playmaking to make up for it. I think he'll very likely be in that 25th-45th best PG in the NBA range for a good while. Monte Morris / Payton Pritchard / Tre Jones etc. The difference between the two is that with Kolek at 23yo and Sheppard at 19yo, Sheppard was a statistically better and more impactful player last season. We can dig into the video scout and strengths and weaknesses etc (Sheppard more shooting and defending, Kolek more passing and orchestration), but a lot of where a guy's range is on draft boards just boils down to "how actually good was this player on the court, and at what age?"
Siakam isn’t a non-shooter either, so your post remains incredibly dumb even with the correction there’s a difference between not being a great shooter, and being a complete non-shooter…that shouldn’t have to be spelled out for u u post like u were born with 5 extra chromosomes
The Wizards, or the Spurs if they move up,are going to break y'alls poor wittle hearts when they draft Sheppard.
Aren’t you the person posting a million negative posts about Reed? Now teams are perhaps going to move up in the draft to the 1st or 2nd pick to make sure they get him?!? Also white posters in this board would be sad if that happened? cool man
If we can agree that Payton Pritchard is the unquestionable floor for Sheppard, I am perfectly fine with him as the pick. The 7th man on a juggernaut title team, got playing time and contributed behind major stars in J.Brown/J.Holiday/D.White. That's a quality "get", I wouldn't be disappointed. The similarities are pretty obvious: shooting, intelligence, effort, cajones... Now, do you you normally draft a Pritchard at #3? obviously not, there is a reason he was drafted in the 20s... However, Pritchard was 22 when drafted, Sheppard is 19. This matters. The development between 19 and 22 should be be pretty steep for most players. So, the hope here is that he improves substantially. However, I am saying, even if he pulls out a Jalen Green and doesnt improve, we end-up with a Pritchard, not with a bust. I am OK with that.
This is a great point. I feel pretty good that Reed Sheppard will easily have a better career than Payton Pritchard. Just a quick comparison of their college stats, Pritchard shot 43.7% FG, 37.9% 3P, and 80% FT over his 4 year college career. His freshman year, he shot 39% FG, 35% 3P, and 73% FT. Sheppard's shooting splits are in a completely different tier at 53.6% FG, 52.1% 3P, and 83% FT. This doesn't factor in his 2.5 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. So basically Sheppard's floor is borderline championship contributor off the bench. His upside is a suped up, bigger version of Fred VanVleet and Patty Mills. Or a smaller version of Jamal Murray. I am perfectly comfortable drafting Sheppard at 3. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/payton-pritchard-1.html
You dont think they can? They have the youth and veteran help they need to make at least a deep playoff run. That Steven Adams pickup was key. He is still starter worthy. Swinging that proposed trade for Caruso would definitely make them dangerous.
Not while the others are still developing, so why does it matter so much if he takes some of Fred's minutes to develop until he's gone or traded? He might just come out playing great throughout the year. We still have to see improvement from others surrounding the two old vets, and get better at 3's to contend for a championship.
