mariners are 12gms above 0.500. they might be hitting their stride but let's see in a few weeks i guess.
I've heard this meme repeated elsewhere...and I find it so offensive, as a subscriber of historical materialist thought, in how absurdly reductive this thing is and it still finds purchase. Like WTF?
Bagwell on Abreu... it seems like Bags wanted him to stay longer...: https://www.mlb.com/news/jeff-bagwell-on-jose-abreu-being-released-by-astros "if you look at his 2022 numbers -- analytically, data-driven, all that -- he was the guy to get. It just didn’t work out.” “[Assistant hitting coordinator] Rene Rojas spent a lot of time with him. I went down there to see him. I was happy with what I saw. When he came back, it didn’t pan out enough for the organization to see that we could keep trying to see if he could get better, because of the dire need for us to win now.” "Four, five, six in the lineup or five, six, whatever, that’s where José needed to hit, and it just didn’t work out. That’s what’s hard is because we still have to find RBIs. That’s the bottom line of trying to win.”
Well if bagwell wanted him to stay longer and hit higher in the order it disapproves all the people saying bagwell makes the decisions
That being said... O'Brien and Easterby were making the decisions until it was not sustainable. The compromise it seems was the several week 'reset' and bat him ahead of Chas...
Caratini and Chas and Meyers (and who else?) have been pretty much not good at all recently. All 3 can at least bring the glovework, so they're not total zeroes.
By far the best offensive stretch of Adam Everett's career was hitting 2nd when 1M was manager, before Carlos Lee destroyed his leg.
Depending on what you mean by lately, Dubon, Pena and Singleton have also been bad. https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/_/name/hou/split/42/table/batting/sort/OPS/dir/desc
I agree with their take. The Astros have 9 (NINE) pitchers on the IL. They absolutely cannot afford to take any increased risk related to pitcher injuries. Espada did the right thing.
Singleton's rhythm and timing was thrown off because of decisions from above... Peña and Meyers have always been streaky, but when they are on they are on... and they can field and run at least.
If the Rangers sell then both Heaney and Scherzer will be available. Not that Houston would be interested but it would increase the SP supply on the trade market, may make it easier for Houston to get somebody like Severino or Manaea or Gausman.
Rangers getting thumped 12-2 by the Mets. They should be tied with Astros after tonight. Mavericks about to lose the finals. Suck it big d
