Yes I think that could be very possible based on what we heard yesterday.

Delay, delay, delay. It's Trump's plan, and his SC soldiers know who they work for, and it's the orange man.

It's a corrupt court. Corrupt in every sense of the word from basic grifts to foundational beliefs. Anyone expecting a thorough defense of the rule of law from this court has not been paying attention. Political results are the guiding principle here. Plus, rumor is Thomas and Alito want to retire soon. If Trump does not win, they must wait at least four more years or until they die. They will give him every advantage they can.

I caught some of Mitch McConnell’s Meet the Press appearance this morning. He again reiterated that he doesn’t think a president can be impeached and convicted after leaving office. Trump’s lawyer has repeatedly said that any prosecution requires impeachment and vote to convict. Under they and McConnell’s logic a president in their last term essentially could commit any crime right before they leave office as it’s very unlikely Congress can rapidly impeach and then vote to convict.

Correct. Trumps own attorney is asking for immunity that would give president Biden immunity from being charged for assassinating Trump before the election, and he could threaten the Senate with assassination too if they dare impeach him.

So yeah we are one vote away from SCOTUS allowing Joe Biden to become a dictator if he so chooses.

Do you want Joe Biden to become a dictator?

    Question for Right-leaning posters.
Many of y’all have insisted that Biden has committed crimes and is abusing his power. The impeachment effort of Biden has failed.

Whenever Biden is out of office do you believe he should be immune from prosecution?

We begin today with the former associate White House counsel to President Ronald Reagan, Alan Charles Raul, writing for The Hill that if the notion of “presidential immunity” was not invoked for the Iran-contra affair, then it should not be invoked now.

After listening to two and half hours of oral argument in the Donald Trump immunity case, it is perfectly clear what the Supreme Court should decide: namely, as little as possible. [...]

In what’s known as the Iran-Contra affair, conduct involving unmistakable official foreign policy powers of the president was subjected to intense criminal scrutiny; that affair actually concerned selling arms to Iran in exchange for American hostages as part of a presidentially authorized covert action as well as funding the Nicaraguan Contras to carry out a key element of President Reagan’s anti-Marxist foreign policy agenda.

Invoking presidential immunity was off the table in Iran-Contra — both in the public mind and in the White House. Success for White House lawyers was ending up with a client who was neither impeached nor indicted — which is how it turned out. In contrast, it notably did not work out well for prior, politically motivated president who invoked presidential immunity to avoid producing tape recordings from the Oval Office: Nixon in Watergate. He failed in the Supreme Court, where the justices famously rejected his claim to an “absolute, unqualified Presidential privilege of immunity from judicial process under all circumstances.”

So, why should the Supreme Court now engage in minute parsing of various hypothetical circumstances that might or might not warrant plenary or partial presidential immunity?

    Gotta love Jamie Raskin.

“They’re politicians who are not even subject to popular election, unlike me,” Raskin said during his Thursday appearance on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut.”

“They should move the Supreme Court over to the RNC headquarters, because they’re acting like a bunch of partisan operatives.”

I guess we'll see how blatantly crooked the Supreme Court is if they actually give Trump full immunity from being convicted for numerous very serious crimes.

I mean if they grant immunity what is to stop Biden from executing Trump and 3 or 4 SC justices? I mean if a President has immunity, right?

SCOTUS is taking so long with this opinion for this very reason. This is the most self interested and corrupt court we've probably ever had. They are famously self interested at least with the senior MAGA members. They'll write this opinion in a way that zero's in on Trump's situation as one that is unique... when it really isn't because any president could stage a coup via threatening state officials, his VP, Congress, and fake electors.

My guess is they say that president's do not have total immunity, but IN THIS CASE, the judge in this case (Chutkin) has to be line by line to decide immunity for each action, and each action can then be appealed up to the Supreme Court.... which basically kills this prosecution by delays upon delays.

If Trump loses in November MAYBE this case could finally go to trial before the statute of limitations is up. However Trump would already be in jail due to the conviction in Manhattan (assuming he doesn't win on appeal) so it's reasonable to think that the DOJ maybe drops the majority of the charges and just goes to trial on one or two charges that can be ruled on quicker, or have already been ruled on as having immunity or not having immunity by SCOTUS.

SCOTUS will want these individual actions to be ruled on individually because it will allow them to write the opinion in a way where they could potentially rule the other way on an action in different circumstances.... mainly if it was a Democrat doing it, or a Republican they didn't like.

Point being... there is no faith in SCOTUS anymore. They'll do whatever is in their interest, and the interest of their billionaire donors. I firmly believe we cannot continue on much longer as a Democracy if SCOTUS is not reformed in a major way. Winning in November is all about SCOTUS long term because the next president will have that ability most likely since it's likely that Alito, and Thomas probably won't be physically able to be on the court that much longer even though they'll stay on the court as long as they can stay alive I'm sure. If Trump wins he'll replace Thomas, Alito, and maybe Roberts as well with sycophants even more corrupt, and self interested... and they'll be young, and hungry to solidify the power in this country moving forward which will 110% NOT be aligned with the vast majority of regular working Americans.
