It's hard to celebrate his release knowing the contract he was given. It was sad to see him struggle in all facets of the game for the last year plus and the drag he had on this team is unfortunate. So I'm glad he's off the roster.
I really did think he would come into this season and start/end strong after that bad start to his first season with us. But, he didn't. I'm not sure what he did in the off-season if anything but that was as awful a start as one can expect to see from any position player.
Loved when we signed him, always wanted him to do well, and really liked his playoff blasts vs MINN -- but dude is one of the worst signings in franchise history. I don't wish him doing well with anything player-wise going forward unless he refunds money.
I'll eat crow. Liked the pick up when they signed him. Thought at the very least he'd be a serviceable 1st baseman. Sayonara. You aint gotta go home but you can't stay here. And 30 mil to chill on the golf course he'll be alright lol. I'm sure some team will kick the tires.
Every boy dreams of making the big leagues, signing a huge 3 year contract, not playing up to it, and getting released less than halfway through it to where they are no longer earning it but it just becomes free money. That is what I thought about playing baseball as a boy.
Abreu was one of those players where the decline came fast and hard, hitting him like a ton of bricks during the latter half of the 2022 season with the White Sox. I liked the dude as a person and appreciated his professional demeanor, but it's obvious that he is washed. A very poor signing and a horrible contract. Glad he's gone, and his next stop should be retirement. The root cause that led to the Astros getting him in the first place is still with the organization in an influential manner.
He will never refund the money and you would do not do it either if somebody gave you $30 million and do you see any player give their money back to the organization after being released? No! Do not be stupid
I'll admit I was excited we signed Jose. Hell every baseball fan of other organizations was pissed we added him. But I would have been fine with Yuli on the cheap, save the money for the trade deadline. Might have made the difference last year and sure as hell would look good now. I think Crane made a mistake not working it out with Click. Sometimes you need a different view than your own.
Forgot to add - I hope it does not hit him in the ass. I am going to go out on a limb and predict he will not be missed.
Wasn't being stupid... I was being nice to give dude an out. So, like already said, I don't wish him doing well with anything player-wise going forward unless he refunds money.
He is not going to refund the money, would you give $30 million back to the organization? I doubt it!
