This is being grossly mishandled. Yes, there is a “human element”, but you don’t talk about that publicly. These comments from Espada and Brown are humiliating to Abreu. Unless they are trying to goad him into retiring or going on the IL and/or settling for a buyout less than his full contract, all they’re doing by talking about it is embarrassing the player and fracturing the clubhouse. You either play him, with the public statement being that you still believe he will produce, or you release him. This half in half out **** is beyond stupid.
The organization is rapidly becoming dysfunctional. I just do not see any of this happening if James Click was still here.
They had to. Just can’t have that kind of production at that position. I’m sure they’re also tired of talking about it. Can’t wait to hear from Bagwell…..
the human element is do the human, compassionate thing and respect everyone ese”s talent on the team by showing that dude the door to retirement— otherwise he’s ending his career on a “fooled ya twice”. Give the man the rest of the year to go travel, work out, eat/intake foreign substances in foreign places…. THEN, if he’s not HULKING PUT by Sept/Oct OR (even better) by Feb/March of ‘25… see ya, thanks for the tomfoolery and whatthefvckery. Edit: OMG. THANK YOU DANA.
While I think cutting losses is the best approach I wonder what this does for a team with a sketchy reputation across the league already. Hopefully the team has younger talent they can bring up to develop or has a deal in mind to bring in a younger player from outside the organization.
