I think it’s pretty obvious that Abreu’s mere presence is hurting Singleton. The spotty playing time isn’t helping either, Singleton needs consistent at bats. That being said, Big Jon is in the big leagues and needs to cash in on opportunities whether they are plentiful or sparse.
Absolutely nothing has changed with Abreu. He's beating balls into the dirt to the first base side. He still can't get around on a good FB. He'll occasionally have a fly ball exit at 100 but few and far between. You just can't have a 1B man that is zero threat and hitting eighth. Unfortunately the long string of winning has brought on arrogance from Crane......
Abreu played 4/28 and then 5/27 From 4/29-5/26 Singleton: 24g 5hr 16r 14rbi .231/.351/.436/.789 = 128 wRC+ Projected to 150g that's 31hr 100r and 87rbi By definition that is 28% ABOVE average.
Heck... Singleton's wife went public about the disappointment of not being able to play when the team was in his hometown last week...
That's what you got from that? It doesn't have to be said player. Just retool a bit with players that make sense. The current Abreu crisis is having a snowball effect on the front office all the way to the manager to the lineup even minor league lineups. Did anyone see the Hader signing coming? A couple of outlets, like Forbes, had him as one of the most impactful free agents in November 2023. That would have been an outstanding tsunami splash for any other team.
This is far worse than the Doug Drabek, Greg Swindell, Jennings, Preston Wilson, Carlos Gomez, Woody Williams, Mike Hampton II, Carlos Lee acquisitions... only thing less bad was signing Mitch Williams.
I thought there was a decent chance they’d cut bait with Abreu today. If it doesn’t happen today we have to assume Abreu will be with them until at least the All-Star break; what evidence could they possibly be looking for that they haven’t seen over the last 4 weeks/3.5 months???
Ya know, if they're going to saddle Espada with **** like this, then they have no right to b**** about the results.
Players press when there is a black hole line that in the lineup. Batters before abreu press to do things because they know he’s looming. batters after him press to get his job done because he just failed.
Yep, and that was message last week. And the week before. And the week before that. And... And... And come Labor Day, and he is going to turn the corner any day now.
