Eerily similar to all the bios of the guys I posted. How has that worked out for them? Some of those guys could actually shoot free throws and jumpers.

Slow, plodding players are useful during the rigors of a regular season, but they wont contribute in a game deciding play while sitting on the bench in the modern NBA. Dudes like Clingan get hunted and run off the court in the playoffs.

I just illustrated the ways that he's not like those others.

    Ergo the appeal.

All that said, again....I'm for moving the pick for a veteran stud target and assets.

If the right deal isn't there, take him.

Team #1 need is shooting so lets use a top 3 pick on a backup big man (3rd string?) who cant shoot and is limited outside of the restricted area? o_O

Rafael Stone traded for the only center of consequence within the last 5 years and he just so happens to be the starter for this team and is slated to be so for the next decade or more.

Just feels like a misallocation at pick 3.

I totally understand/respect where you're coming from VC.

While the shooting is a legitimate concern for sure, I feel like when you weigh the rarity of Clingan, and what he's worth on the open market...vs the ability to address that need in other ways...it's an easy call for me. I'm definitely not on board with Reed at #3. And, again...looking up and down these prospects, he seems to be the safest pick.(along with upside)

I've been trying to convince myself P - the kid is a hard worker on the court. Smart. Im not trying to break him down. He's basically a pick and roll lob threat on offense. His defense is nice, but is it nice enough to keep him on the court in critical possessions?

I agree this draft is a little underwhelming and thus instead of rolling the dice on what may happen 3+ years down the line we could actually help a .500 team add a layer that it has been missing.

I hope he proves you right my guy Im just not so sure it will be for our team.

No we’re using the 3rd pick for when Sengun happens to be in foul trouble?

some athletic big that can give u 10-15 minutes a night running the floor, rebounding, and blocking shots is a dime a dozen and can be acquired easily via trade for next to nothing

you’re talking like we’re currently some top tier playoff team with a mediocre draft pick discussing who would best fit a need for us, because that’s what I’d be using to draft a 15 min/game backup and foul trouble insurance, not the 3rd overall pick

I don't want to single you out because lots of people are saying similar things. But is Clingan really *that* rare or valuable? I mean, sure if he becomes DPOY and hits his high-end outcomes, I get it. But I'm just assuming he hits his median-ish outcomes. Like a good NBA center, maybe top 10-15 center in the NBA on the slightly high side.

IMO we've actually had a lot of good centers in recent drafts. Mobley (I think he's a center long term), Kessler, Chet, Wemby (well he's a freak), Mark Williams (maybe not great, but he's huge), Edey in this draft, Lively, etc. I like Adem Bona in the 2nd round, but he's probably not going to be an good rim protector per se (but probably solid defender?). In the next draft or 2, you might have Rocco Zikarsky, Khaman Maluach, Ivisic brothers, Hansen Yang, Daniel Jacobsen, Somto Cyril, etc.

Most of those guys probably won't amount to anything (I thought Aday Mara might be decent :/), but they all have interesting combinations of size, skill, and athleticism. If we're talking about back-up minutes for a rim protector, I think there's a good chance you can find one in a future draft. Or just by signing/acquiring a big like the Rockets did with Adams.

Now if you want to start this kind of player and give them 30+ minutes, then I could see the value of selecting Clingan. Though not sure that will be too likely.

A “helluva passer” is putting it on pretty heavy for a guy that averaged 1.5 assists a game. Magic Johnson he is not.

We are talking about a guy that has zero perimeter skills whatsoever. Zero shooting, zero dribbling. Has not made one advanced post move on film. He makes Andrew Bogut look like Hakeem Olajuwon in terms of touch, feel and skill.

Nearly identical profile to Jakob Poeltl…

Not to mention Zach Edey had better combine agility numbers. I don't get the hype on Clingan at all. He's slow and can't shoot, but somehow he is getting top 5 press.

I’d much rather throw Sarr in there with Jabari and Alperen.

Could you please tell me who in this draft would play 15 to 20 min in our team? This draft isn't that strong compare to previous years

Reed Sheppard. Holiday averaged 16 minutes per game last season. Sheppard could easily slide into that spot taking those minutes.

They're not taking Clingan when they have Alp, Adams and Landale. Especially at 3. They also have Bari who plays some at the 5 when they go small. Not going to happen.

    They need shooting. SHOOTING!

Take Reed. He'll be Holiday's replacement this year and depending on how it plays out could be FVV's replacement next year.

Holiday missed several games, and it’s debatable if he would have played as much if Amen hadn't been out. When comparing Holiday and Reed, there are notable similarities. Reed doesn’t drive or create shots as effectively as Holiday, nor does he surpass Holiday in defense. However, Reed is a superior passer.

You aren't considering the long term. Adams and Jock likely won’t be on the roster in the future. While we do need shooting, we can address that through free agency, and we are hopeful that our current players will improve their shooting skills.

Holiday has below average iq and botched so many easy plays it’s not even funny. His defense was also negated by his constant fouling.
