Picking up his dribble is a legitimate criticism, it goes along with the general criticism of being too conservative at times, but those things can be fixed. The jumping in the air without a plan isn't really something he does though. As to the "can't get separation" bit, it's partially irrelevant and partially false. What's true is that he's not some kind of one on one ISO player.... which is good because that's almost always bad basketball. What's also true is that he does fairly well driving then throwing on the brakes to get an open midrange shot like Chris Paul often does.... and Sheppard his then at a rate similar to Chris Paul. As to his PG upside, I didn't really see that until I watched a lot of full games. He was always the guy they trusted to being the ball up the court because they knew he wouldn't allow himself to get trapped, he was the guy they trusted to bring the ball in bounds, he created a ton of offense for others. That said, this is the part of his game that will likely take a few years to fully develop.
How many of those guys walked like normal human beings? Most of those guys were lumbering oafs with steel joints that would snap when bent. Wemby can actually touch his toes. He's special because he's that tall without any symptoms of Marfan or pituitary imbalance.
Sampson did. In fact he is likely the best comparison to Wemby. He was 7'4 and had "guard like skills". He was also a tall bean pole although he had more meat on his bones than Wemby.
I've been saying this for a while now. I don't see using a high pick for him. All those other assets he showed off at the combine are tempered somewhat by his lack of height, and one season of great shooting from a non-starter doesn't make him a lock to replicate it in the pros. But if we keep the pick and select him, I hope he proves me wrong.
You can't fool me, I've seen this movie. We get all worked up to draft Sheppard at #3, and he goes #1.
I agree with Sampson but then it's just a 1/1 sample size and nothing to draw conclusions from. I'm a bit wary to look too much into 40 year old samples when athletic training and sports medicine have advanced so much since then.
if one of the wings in this draft has a surprisingly good rookie season I could see them being better than Brooks right off the bat. That is really the only one starter where I can squint and see maybe one of these rookie wings potentially being better within their first year. But the problem is we already have two high ceiling young wings in Amen(undetermined if he's a guard or wing yet) and Cam
Value or fit?.........we'll see?......same goes with Clingan?............ Trade to Spurs for 4 and 7 and get even more......... Especially if (French) Risacher is available.......... Or just take him..... we'll see?.......
There's plenty who should be better than Jalen Green from day one. All they'd have to do would be a net positive player. I'm not sure there's ever been a draft with zero net positive players.
