I actually agree with most of your points here. I would rather have Wemby, because of his potential, but all three of Banchero, Barnes, and Wemby are media created darlings. I wouldn’t trade Jabari one on one for Banchero. If Wemby doesn’t become a good outside shooter then he is just a media created all-star that will never be generational. Barnes may be better all around player than Jalen right now, but has no where near the potential and is just an above average SF.
OF COURSE I would have Wemby over Green. The only reason I bought him up was perspective of how large the gap is between perception and reality when it comes to efficiency of Green compared to most young high prospects his age. Wemby also had historical defensive impact metrics his rookie year. My main point was to show even someone like Wemby has efficiency problems when young.
It makes perfect sense that three few remaining Jalen Green apologists would be high on Rob Dillingham.
The problem for me with Jalen is not that he isn't efficient yet, it's that he hasn't shown a pattern of improvement in that area.
Wemby wasn’t a great outside shooter last year and is already a top 5-10 defender, high iq player. You’d have to be insane to not want him above basically anyone on our squad. not trading Jabari for Banchero right now is also a helluva take. i sometimes wonder if some of y’all guys actually watch other teams play.
Seriously… the Magic would laugh and hang up the phone if we tried to trade Jabari for Paolo straight up.
I probably would trade 1 on 1 for Wemby for any of our players. I have always thought Banchero was overrated and the stats have born that out. He is a better passer than Jabari. He scores more points because of usage. Jabari beats him at virtually every other statistic and is a way better defender and 3 pt shooter. Regarding Wemby, he is a really good shot blocker, but is not the defensive juggernaut you make him out to be. If he develops a good 3 pt shot he will be generational. If he doesn’t he will be a perennial all-star candidate but not a top 5 player in the NBA. The other risk with Wemby is that history has shown us that men of his height have short NBA careers due to injury. When talking about guys this young, it is still about potential. Wemby still has more potential than everyone drafted in the last 3 or 4 years, so, yes, if you could get him you do, but it is way less certain that he will have a better career than Sengun or Amen for example.
That is not even true........DeMarcus Cousins had a career ending injury and he was 6'10, 6'11. Embiid missed 2-3 seasons but is healthy since then, and he is 7'. Kevin Durant at 6'10 had numerous injuries, Klay Thompson had 1-2 career threatening injuries and was 6'6. Kobe Bryant had numerous injuries which he fought thru and was 6'6. Shawn Bradley was 7'6 and had a 12 year career. I do not really see that much correlation between being over 7 ft and freak injuries.......freak injuries happen to wing players just as much ---- See Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill. See John Wall. Big men injuries get sensationalized a lot more. The true reason is that bigs get hacked a lot more, used to be in the past....until they stepped out and shot 3s.
That is definitely a more fair criticism but I'd say between his first and second year he upped his ppg by a lot with only a half a percent drop in ts% and increasing his self creation rate by 10% which is an overall net improvement in scoring given the significantly higher volume on more self creation with little impact on efficiency. From his second to third year he had to adjust to a new coaching philosophy and role. These are some possible reasons for the lack of efficiency improvement. My point is not all of it is on him.
Yes Mobley and Barnes. They have been better than Jalen. I don't know what narratives you are talking about because I didn't bring up any.
You are just regurgitating your premise. I assumed that is what you mean. But there is the part where you justify your narrative. "Being better" has context. Does Mbley improve the Rockets if you swap Green for him? No. This team already was a top defensive team.but one of the worse offensive teams in the league.wnd given how Green out of the main rotation guys had the second best on/off impact on team offensive efficiency only behind FVV, swapping Green for Mobley would have devisteting effects. Barnes is a lot more trickier. He doesn't improve spacing as his outside shooting percentage is similar to Green's but on significantly less difficult shot profile from 3. He's not doing many step backs with 5 seconds left on he shot clock. He's a better playmaker statistically but when you delve deeper you realize most of his assists are simple dho handoffs and not him breaking down defenses which is how Green usually gets his assists. Both have similar career efficiency. Also both averaged the same amount of points this past season but Green did it on a significantly better team where if Barnes was on the team his usage would drop and his scoring average would drop as he would have to compete with Sengun and FVV. So good chance Barnes has worse numbers than Green if we swapped Green for him on his same roster for last season.
Most players 7'4 and above have short careers. Shawn Bradley was never high use player. The other players you mentioned were not 7'4. Wemby is the main man and will play a lot more than Bradley ever did. Think Ralph Sampson when you see Wemby because he is the best comparison.
He's a top 5-10 defender in that there's 4 to 9 players that have a claim to 2nd place through 10th place. He was the best and most impactful player on defense in the league last year - I get why Rudy won the award, but Wembanyama was a the best defender by January of last season.
Bruh quit lying. I never said Wemby is the french Emoni Bates I said you gotta wait to see if he is worth the hype like Emoni Bates. And yes I'll still take Amen over Wemby it's marathon not a sprint. Tell me again how Wemby is better than MVP Embiid before he even played his first real game. Will you ever walk that comment back or you just pretend you never said it?
You left out Bill Walton, Odom, Yao Ming, and Embid is oft-injured or playing injured. Most of those guys were also much thicker than Wemby. I can’t predict the future, but I’m not yet buying the Wemby Goat talk yet. To me Sengun was the better player last year (given Wemby was a rookie), but saying Wemby’s height and skinny frame is not an injury concern is a bit disingenuous. I also said I would trade any of our players for him, because of his potential if he does stay healthy and develop a better outside shot. Your point about centers stepping out and shooting 3 pointers more is exactly the point I was making about Wemby. He can’t be all-time great unless he gets better at 3 point shooting, because he will never be a post player (because of his frame).
Some of folks can avoid a long list of injuries due to not bulking up too much...... Stepping out there to shoot 3s is not a bad thing after all. I think Chet and Wemby have the unique opportunity to play PF and C at the same time. Not everyone has to be a rim protector 24/7......48 min/a game. There is a place for Clingans and Edeys.
