Luka and James Harden are basically the same player. Harden statically peaked higher. The major difference is the NBA seems to be all about fully backing and marketing Luka while the NBA did everything they could to nerf and sabotage James Harden. And yes sure harden is at fault for wetting the bed in big playoff games, but what the 2018 wcf showed us is that, even if harden was perfect, the nba would have stepped in and sent him home this tweet basically shows the difference between how both are officiated in the playoffs. Nah. Lke what another poster here said Luka is better than Harden because Luka doesn't party and spend every night in the clubs. Luka is also 6'8 vs Harden who is 6'4. He has an edge due to his height and length. First of Luka actually reached the Finals whereas Harden peaked at WCF. Secondly Luka already shut down 2 good playoff teams first Booker PHX and then Ant Wolves whereas Harden hasn't really had any iconic shut down performances in the playoffs he is strictly a regular season player. Third, Luka is playing injured so even while injured he is putting up great performances meanwhile Harden played like crap the times he played injured in the playoffs. Finally Luka is only 24 yrs old he is only a year older than Knecht who isn't even drafted yet. At his age Harden was worse. Mavs may get swept but that ain't due to Luka. His last game for example he had a 30 pt triple double while shooting 44% from 3 on 9 attempts. This is not like Harden whose efficiency plummets in the playoffs.
The 2018 Rockets would be in the Finals if they played this season. Luka beat an injured Clippers team and 2 teams full of kids, with coaches dumb enough to never attack him defensively. If you are going to compare team success you need to account for the competition played.
Doubt. I'd take Minny or Nuggets this year over the 2018 Rockets. The Cp3 Rockets teams are stricly a regular season team as with only 2 stars in Harden and Cp3, a bunch of guys who can't even dribble the ball and MDA who doesn't know how to adjust or play more than 6 people they are inferior to the competition this year. Harden and Cp3 are also flawed stars Harden parties every night win or lose so in a 7 game series he plays worse and worse as he gets tired and CP3 is the greatest choker in NBA history has blown the most 2-0 leads ever. 0-23 from 3 says it all.
Physical attributes aside, Luka and Harden are the same player in terms of style, skills and foul baiting aside from one key difference. Luka has a better shot selection during crunch time when Harden becomes a fadeaway 3-ball spammer.
This is actually the times that a slimmer, 20-40 pounds lighter Luka would do better at. Staminawise. Still hobbling though.
