Can’t believe nobody seems bothered to lose Aaron Holiday. He was a steady and reliable backup to FVV and shot almost 40% threes and an amazing 92% free throws. He was the “star of the game” several times last year and hit multiple clutch threes and made free throws when needed at the end of games. Not sure how much more if any Sheppard brings, but Holiday certainly deserves appreciation from Rockets fans for what he brought to the team.
I take it OP is referring to the recent articles mentioning he'll most likely move on being a free agent. I liked Holiday and thought he played his role well. We have a lot of guys that need more minutes though so it makes sense for him to explore his options and he'll probably have a few. If we still had a team like the Harden/CP3 years he would be a perfect guy for the Austin Rivers role. Good luck to him.
He was a joy to watch when he took over and made multiple threes in a row. Not so much when he forced his shot at times he really shouldn't have. I won't be too sad to see him go if we can replace the spacing he provides.
I thought he was a steady and solid vet But the article also noted that the Rox will continue an open communication with him throughout the offseason Understandably his intent is to get paid and find a bigger role
He played his role well with us. If he can't get a job anywhere else, I wouldn't mind re-signing him to be the 3rd string PG.
Great post! He would occasionally drive me nuts when he followed up a few great games and then let it go to his head and forced shots thinking he was THE star. He had a stretch of those, but for the most part figured it out and did a good job as a backup to FVV. What I liked best and will miss is his almost perfect free throw shooting. Never stressed at the end of games when he was in there. I trusted him even more than FVV at crunch time.
Nothing is definite yet. Also, Zion Williamson may or may not be available (your other thread). Either way, I don't want him.
Don’t see the Rockets getting in a bidding war to keep Holiday with most sources having Sheppard as the pick. Holiday has made it clear that he’s a free agent looking for his so-called payday likely with another team. As far as Zion, there was serious chatter a few weeks ago but that has since died down. It appears their bigger focus is on trading Ingram. Danny Ainge has made it clear he wants Zion in Utah, but don’t think a package with Markanan and others gets it done. Ainge (who I dislike) only does trades where he tries ripping other teams off and many hate dealing with him.
Selfishly I think he's a great guy to keep on the roster but it's not really in his best interest to stay here - there aren't a lot of minutes for him with all our youth and he probably would make more money on another team than what we could offer him in a deal knowing we have so many guys to sign over the next few years. Hats off to him for being a professional but he really should take a deal for more money elsewhere.
Aaron played well. He deserves a big payday and an opportunity for more playing time. It's unlikely the Rockets will want to pay him even $5 million/year, but people expect Fertitta to draft a point guard at #3 and pay him $10 - $14 million? Not unless a trade is in the works. I told someone here that my NBA friend said it's likely Aaron Holiday isn't coming back (before reports starting coming out). If he's right about this then he might be right about this other thing. The person who may replace Aaron isn't in the draft, he's a free agent. Holiday's not leaving because of the Rockets "interest in Reed," that's absurd. None of the players know who the Rockets may or may not draft. So much can happen, it'd be insane to tell a Aaron to sign with another team because they plan on drafting a certain player at his position. Many teams need point guards, so this is just the best time for him to seek a better opportunity. I wish him the best of luck (if he leaves).
Really solid find by Rafael Stone and team. Guy is capable of giving you 15 minutes in a playoff game, and we got him for nothing.
Aaron was a decent 3 string pg that got play as the backup PG on our team. He sometimes (a lot of times) got sticky with the ball and he was hunted on defense. Let someone else pay him. I think the Rockets are going to bring a Brogdon or Caruso type in and pick the best bpa further down in the draft. That is definitely the clearest path to the playoffs this up coming year while still preserving our core and the real gems of the Nets trade (25 and 26 picks).
Personally, I don't see the Rockets' draft choice affecting whether Holiday stays with the team or not. I mean, Clingan's skills don't overlap with Holiday's at all, IMO.
