He's the most realistic target for us. There's a lot of value on both sides of the ball with DM playing out top again. We know he can be a secondary ball handler that can bust too. Dejounte gives us flexibility regarding FVV & Jalen.
I'm pretty sure Atlanta is keeping Murray and looking to move Trae. And please let's not propose a trade involving Johnson.... they'll build around him, #1 and Murray plus the rest
He's a terrible fit with Trae 'cause he need the ball in his hands, so i don't know wherre you got that he's the target as a secondary ball handler.
So are we trading Fred then because the whole "two point guards" thing didn't work out too well for Atlanta...
I like Murray; I like his contract even more. My only thing with Murray is he’s not really a good shooter. And I think he’s much better in the point guard role than off-ball. He’s versatile though. Not a star, but a good starter. It would depend on the price, but we probably need a guard who shoots over league average rather than under it. If Amen is gonna have a role in the back court that’s two poor shooters (that’s not counting Jalen whose future is up in the air). Not poopooing the idea of Murray, but not sure about the fit with Amen (and Jalen).
FWIW, I think that would be a horrible idea but just purely as a thought experiment there isn’t really a path that makes a lot of sense for salary matching rules with the salaries we have on our roster without throwing more and more players to the deal to balance it out and those types of trades very rarely happen…also can’t image anyone thinking Jalen/Tre is an upgrade over Murray/Tre given Tre’s Achilles heel is defense.
I have hope still for Jalen, if he can just put it together...man, this year is really do or die for him.
The more I think about this, the less I like it. FVV is just as good as Murray even considering the size difference. The things he’s better at than Murray is much more suited to our team (floor general, deadly off ball, mature). Murray is better at getting to the rim, which is nice but not worth the downgrade everywhere else. FVV is just better for Sengun/Green/Amen. That’s our core. Winning 3 extra games next year is not worth ignoring our duty to customize this team specifically to our core. I’d rather upgrade from Brooks to Bridges. That’s a bigger improvement. It actually improves our projected top two scorers. Basketball is just offense and defense. You hold the defense constant and get way better overall offense from Bridges over Brooks. With Murray/FVV the defense is roughly the same and the offense is roughly the same. You just get a younger player who’s unlikely to be good enough to even stay with our core long term. I’d rather keep FVV and picks, wait for a better fit. We can offer up to the best package any team in the NBA can offer. No rush. We’re making the playoffs anyway. I get the idea but not a fan of this one.
