Reed wasnt technically a starter but he was third on the team in minutes. The only two players that played more minutes was their center and a 5th year senior guard. And they only averaged about 2 more minutes per game than him. And he also was on the court to finish most of their close games as well.
Thats what Jimmer averaged as a senior. As a freshman he averaged 3.7 attempts per game. Matter of fact it wasnt until his junior year that he averaged at least 5 attempts per game. His Senior year was the anomaly as far as three point attempts, not the norm. As a freshman Jimmer also averaged 1.7 assists. Reed led his team in assist averaging almost 5 per game. Reed also had triple the amount of steals and blocks wasnt even close. All the while Reed was doing this as a Freshman at a power school loaded with other top prospects at his position while facing much better competition. Jimmer wishes he was Reed Sheppard. The only thing they have in common is that they are 6'2" white guys who can shoot.
I went back a few years to look at Kentucky 3pt attempt stats and Reed would have been second in attempts every year going back at least 7 years. He averaged 4.4 attempts and Herro led the team in attempts his one year there at 4.6. Reed and Dillingham basically shot the same number of threes per game and Reed shot a much better percentage. I dont see much concern about Dillingeham's shooting because he wasnt shooting 8 threes per game. Also, Jabari's shooting was considered a big strength of his coming out and he shot about 30 more threes total than reed did during the season. I dont remember much if any talk about jabari's shooting not translating due to not shooting a super high volume.
And in 2 years we all will be asking for the Rockets to trade 2-3 great FRP to get him. The Rockets won't use a rookie PG that much next year with Fred and the expected growth of Amen, except maybe for Reed because of his projected exceptional shooting. So if Topic is all that, just take him and start reaping the rewards in 2-3 years.
Completely agree. The Spurs we'll gladly take him at 8. They can afford one last year for a good shot at that so strong draft.
Well said. I still think out of the Kentucky guards Dillingham will without a doubt be a better scorer. The dude is vicious and has that fire in him. He loves playing on the road and embraces it. He’s a dog for real but Shepherd I think will fit our team better. If we draft Reed I just pray San Antonio drafts Castle because I don’t want to have to deal with Wemby and Dillingham. I think Castle will be great defensively. I just hate the Spurs so much and after Wemby was clapping because we didn’t get that 1st pick I might hate the dude more than I hated Karl Malone. Everyone sais this is a weak draft but it really depends on the fit and development of the teams.
Why do you think without a doubt that Dillingham will be a better scorer? He only scored 3 more pts per game than Sheppard? What makes me want Sheppard more is that he had much higher shooting percentages in every category, and had more steals, assists, and blocks than Dillingham per game. That and the fact that we are in desperate need of much better guys shooting from behind the arc. That being said, Dillingham and Sheppard both will probably do that better as rookies from behind the arc than the guy we have taking the most 3 PT shots right now.
I agree with this. If dude can shoot I’m down for the pick. I still think our biggest need is a guard though. If he could definitely shoot threes he would be the clear cut #1 pick
I think he will be a better three point shooter but he’s also a pass first guy and Dillingham is going ti get his. I’m good with either of them and really my only thing is add shooting even if it’s free agency. I just don’t want another center. I wouldn’t be too mad if we got Castle.
On a 36 min scale, Dillingham's pace was 8 points higher. Sheppard would be better at almost everything else, but if you don't worry about things like defense, Dillingham is a better scorer. I just don't know if Dillingham can be on the court unless he has an absolutely great shotbloacker behind him.
Posters have talked me out of my preference for Dillingham over Sheppard, but my reasoning was Dillingham is much better at breaking down the defense off the dribble and if Jalen fails that is an extremely important skill-set for our offense. We have no one else on the roster that can do it. If Jalen has turned the corner then Reed would be the better pick because he can be a great spot up shooter coming off the bench and plays better defense.
I definitely get ur point. Reed also got a lot of those steals playing out of position and even lost a game trying to get a steal on help defense and left his man for a wide open three. He also won a game with a blocked shot. When he committed to Kentucky a lot of people here where scared he wouldn’t even get much clock with DJ Wagner and Dillingham coming and Coach Cal is loyal to his 5 stars to a fault but Reed made it impossible to not play him. All this bs about the didn’t even start is crazy. They where by far the best players on the team along with Antonio Reeves.
I don't get this Spurs fear that seems to pervade the board. It's a fear based on potential, not actuality. Who cares what San Antonio does in this draft? We can't get every good player in every draft and make other teams draft bad ones. If you want to win a championship, guess what? You must beat really good teams along the way--teams with superstars and all-stars and great role players. By the time we're ready to do that, the Spurs may or may not be there, but some teams will be. We're still improving by leaps and not at the point where we are fine-tuning because we are already one of the top four teams in the NBA. Just enjoy the process folks.
I don't get the fear either. San Antonio has Wemby, but they need to nail these two picks to build for their future. I think people might be worried that we'll pass on a good player that San Antonio jumps on, which would suck because we could have possibly slowed down their rise. But that's only an issue if we blow our pick, they draft well, and then build a competitor in short order. I'm not worried about them. I'm worried about OKC. They have our pick this year and in 2026, plus a swap next year. They have seven first round picks over the next two years, including the Clippers' unprotected pick in 2026. That's a pretty huge war chest. OKC can outbid most teams in trading for a star, plus they are super young, and were already the top team in the West this past season. SGA is only 25 years old. It's not going to be fun trying to catch up with them for years, all while still sending them our picks from a trade four years ago.
You hit the nail on the head my friend. At least, this upcoming year the Spurs will totally suck. If they would trade their 25 pick unprotected for our #3 this year, I would take it in a split second. With the next coming in Wemby they won 20 games. If they play it smart and hold on to all their draft capital, I think they can become a problem, because they would have by far and away the best trade package for a disgruntled Giannis. Giannis and Wemby(if he learns to shoot) would be a real problem for the whole league. Right now they have probably the worst roster in the league besides Washington.
With Hurley potentially coming to Lakes, would you do #3/Uncle Jeff for #17/Reaves ? Would you want to expand and add Jocko/Jae for Rui ?
