Cristian Javier and Jose Urquidy both need Tommy John Surgery and will rehab together.

Similar to Lance McCullers and Luis Garcia. Rehabbing together and playing catch.

Latin Pitchers really start playing baseball since age 8 and Youth Leagues. Alot of wear and tear on the body and arm.

The Javier extension really still doesn't look that bad right now. The actual meat of the extension kicks in for 26/27, seasons where he theoretically could still be extremely good,. If he hadn't signed the extension the Astros possibly non tender him for 25 which would have been his last team controlled season and the only extension year that looks to be a bust.

Deal could still end up above water. Obviously the real kick in the teeth is what it does to our already thin rotation. Brown and Arrighetti are pretty much locks to hang around with a chance to establish themselves now, fortunately both seem to have bounced back well from the awful starts.

The news sucks for sure. I just hope this is the reason hes been so up and down last season and this one. Hopefully after the surgery we can get our old Reptile back.
I'd rather him be hurt than he just got figured out by the league and now sucks.
Hopefully LMJ and Garcia can come back and be healthy and pitch like we all know they can

Man. Makes you wonder what the **** our pitching coaches are teaching. LMJ, JV, Garcia, Urquidy, Javier. That is a lot of TJ's in a short period of time. Is that average for a club?

Yes - the Astros are not the only team with a lot of pitching injuries, and I don't think it has that much to do with the pitching coaches.

These guys are throwing harder than ever and with more movement - and that causes strain.

There is an epidemic of pitchers getting hurt.

My best realistic hope for Javier is he comes back in time to be a bullpen weapon in the playoffs, same for McCullers.

    Playoff pitching staff:
    SP: Framber, Brown, Arrighetti, Blanco
RP: Hader, Abreu, McCullers, Javier, Garcia, Whitley, King, Ort, Scott/Dubin

A lot can happen between now and the playoffs. I see us trading for some pitching help if were are contending.

I could definitely see that (with Javier). Another possibility is tandem starts between two of these three (Garcia, Javier and LMJ). If you could get six innings (hopefully a quality start) between two of these guys that would be fantastic.

Of 2026. If everything else plays out the way all our other pitching injuries have

Luis Garcia, Lance McCullers, Cristian Javier give them 3 innings each for 1 game. Every 5th Day. It is a 3 Pitcher Day.

The fallacy is they can return at their previous effectiveness for even 30 pitches after this long of a layoff. A few have, but they are RARE.
