Sean Marks gonna save the Rockets from themselves again. THANK YOU BASED SEAN MARKS. :D

Fisher: “I always say when something was discussed at a previous transaction cycle, when they did have those conversations, it’s easy to pick up the phone again. “Hey, remember how we were talking about that? What about this?” I think there’s a possibility they could come to terms on Mikal at some point in time. However, I don’t think those talks got far in terms of things Brooklyn was wanting to do. There’s an expectation for Brooklyn to get this back to competitive environment. … Nets were hoping they would not fully rebuild and keep it afloat in the 6-8 seed range while they build back up again. A rebuild like that would be a drastic pivot. Houston, from my conversations, values Mikal a little less than when those conversations were happening based on how this year unfolded. I think it’d be more of a hybrid, are you getting other players back. I don’t think the Nets would move him at this juncture to pull the rug out and start fresh.”

“League sources say the Rockets have had conversation with the Grizzlies about trading down from this pick, and that the Rockets hold out hope that the Nets would be willing to move Mikal Bridges for it. But those same sources say the Nets, on the contrary, prefer to add pieces around Bridges.”

I don’t understand our obsession with Bridges?

Do we really view him as a star or are we trying to flip Bridges + a Young Player + Picks for a Star?

Don't get fooled by the drip feed of rehashed Houston<>Mikal Bridges content from twitter rumor aggregator types.

It's just non-Houston media repeating the same story over and over again from the trade deadline. Sidery, KOC, Fischer, Scotto... if you read closely they are just speculating the Rockets could revisit this or that because there were brief conversations in February. Then whenever the Rockets are brought up it's the one nugget they keep rehashing.

When in fact, as Feigen reported (who is actually the guy with direct sources in our FO), those trade discussions were misrepresented -- the Rockets talked to Brooklyn because we had some interest in swapping the future Brooklyn picks for more further future Phoenix picks, just to move back the assets. Bridges was/is not the primary goal.

    Feigen, 5/10:

"After selecting nine players in the first round of the past three drafts, including six that remain key rotations players, the Rockets have moved to a stage of rebuilding that they are more interested in increasing their stockpile of future picks than in adding another young prospect to the current roster.

This has been an ongoing effort for several months that is expected to be revisited in the six weeks leading up to the June 26 draft, a person with knowledge of the Rockets’ thinking said.

This was the subject of the Rockets’ call to the Nets in January when general manager Rafael Stone sought to offer the Nets’ picks back to Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks in exchange for the draft picks from the Phoenix Suns that the Nets hold, according to two individuals familiar with the conversation.

That concept was quickly dismissed with the Nets preferring to pursue a playoff or Eastern Conference play-in spot than to lose their way to a stronger first-round pick this season. Though reports were that the Rockets were interested in trading Jalen Green or in acquiring Mikal Bridges, the Rockets’ primary goal was — and still is — to move their collection of draft assets back."

Call me crazy, but I rather take a risk on pick 3 being a bust than get Bridges. He will demand a max contract once it's time to pay our core. He is not worth trading for IMO.

If the Rockets had a FO that was respected, I don't think we'd be hearing these kinds of ridiculous trade rumors.

Given that they aren't respected, any trade rumor no matter how absurd could potentially be real.

TBF if you respect Ime, you should respect our FO.
Ever since Ime came on board, he has a lot of say in who we sign/trade for.
FO wanted Harden, but ended up picking FVV over Harden because of Ime.
    Ime clearly wants Bridges.
I don't agree with it, but with what he did with our team in the first year he has my trust.

Ime is how they got stuck with Dillon Brooks and that ridiculous contract...

I'm not sure I trust his talent evaluation any more than I trust Stone.

Ime should stick to coaching and the Rockets should bring in a competent GM.

    It was a good gamble.
$80M is not a lot with the way the cap is going up.
We took a flyer on a former All NBA defender.
Say what you want about Dillon, but he for sure had a hand in helping us become top 10 defense (while also contributing to us being a bottom tier offense lol.)

    Probably be something like.....

Bridges, Smart to Houston for Brooks Eason and there draft picks back
Grizzles get Tate, K Johnson and #3. Houston also gets nets pick from 39(Nets) in 2024, maybe late 2025, 27 2nd rd picks to houston?

Seems like a trade both team would bite on.

Yet a lot of fans would not like idea of trading Eason, but i think this somewhat of a fair trade. PLus getting Smart as better back up top 6th man for this team. Would propel rockets big time.

It was a horrendous gamble. Brooks was far better then anyone could have ever imagined and it is still an AWFUL signing. 20 mil a year for garbage is awful, no matter how you spin it

The coach should have a voice in player acquisition. And Udoka did save us from the potentially terrible Harden deal. But I don't ever trust coaches to make definitive personnel decisions. They are shortsighted and always want to win now, and have biases toward types of players they like to coach, often at the expense of long term team building. That's where GMs are supposed to come in--long term development. But I am scared of Stone's skills or lack of in negotiating trades and Tilman's meddling. The only guy I trust in the FO is Witus.
