This can't be said enough. I think Sengun is the closest to untouchable on the team, and he sure looked the part until mid December last season. I think Jalen's March overshadowed Amen's mid February through the end of the season. I'd probably view Sengun as more untouchable if the Rockets other close to untouchable guys could shoot (mostly Amen). I don't like operating from who the primary trade candidates are from the team. I want to know who the Rockets are going after. I get looking at Landale, Green the Elder, and Tate as potential matching salary. I get looking at Green the younger a little more than the rest of the Core 6 as he's closer to RFA and his variance of salary and production are all over the place. Though, I'd be looking at some good players to want to deal Jalen.
The clock is ticking on Jalen & he's going to want a max deal. Are you going to give him that max contract? I think I.D.I.O.T with a poll .... think it would be interesting to see where the majority stand on Jalen's impending contract status. Do you give him a max Do you let him go to RFA What happens when another team offers him a max - do you match or let him walk? To be honest, I don't think we ever get to that point, I think he ends up being traded before the trade deadline this coming season - Unless he comes out playing well from the beginning.
We have too many guys that are oozing with potential and with flaws.... Fred Van Vleet saved the Rockets with his ball handling and his timely 3s. Dillon Brooks did set the tone defensively early in the season and was efficient. Jeff Green won us the Denver game. All of those guys are not untouchables. Same goes for those young guys.
Nothing and everything, nobody is secure, that means. But wouldn't be surprised if they procrastinate it to the last second.....so I think RFA situation is still feasible..... The most sensible thing is to look for trades but the Rockets do not always do the right thing....so I have come to understand. If he gets the max and has a slump again in a few years, you have problems moving it then. He is in the situation where he needs to make the most money, he is 22 and living out his life with those hoes around him.......he has chosen that lifestyle....and he has to work for it. Has to pay tons of alimonies and children money......
I do not see him being offered the max this yr. I think if he's smart, he chooses to come in next year and prove himself to earn the most he can.
I don't give him the max now. I let him go to RFA. I'd love if Green was worth another team offering the max as it means he's easily worth matching. Teams do not offer RFA max deals unless they are easily worth it as it ties up their money while all the good free agents are signed.
This would not be smart. This would be athlete cajones. Green could easily sign a deal worth more money than he'll ever spend if he was smart about spending this offseason. Athletes don't do the smart thing as getting more money is a huge status symbol between players. He's risking probably about $100M for the chance to make an additional $40M (ball park estimate without running the numbers).
I think the Rockets should build around 3 guys: Sengun, Smith and Thompson. All 3 have a winning mentality and a seriousness about the game that I respect and who's skill sets are most well rounded. Smith and Thompson have that killer instinct especially on the defensive end. Whitmore and Eason are awesome and I want them to stick around long-term, especially Eason, but the ceiling on the other 3 is the highest. I'm paying those 3 FOR SURE and then monitoring strongly Eason and Whitmore's development.
Disagree. A near max, if not full max depending on his performance next year, is worth more than a Porter type of deal this year. Even with all his high flying, crazy acrobatics, he just handed in an 82 game season and that's nothing to discount. I'd imagine he rolls the dice and comes out with something to prove.
Rookie max is topped at 25%. I'd guess Jalen Green is worth about $10M less now per season than that with him likely earning something even if he's a bust. Maybe I should have said $50M instead of $40M as I think the rookie max extension went up to 5 years with last CBA. Either way, the amount of additional luxury $40M or $50M extra buys after the first $100M is superfluous, IMO.
What can we get for Dillon + Adams / Londale + Tate? Has Himmie upset Pat Riley that much??? hope so Could we throw in our 2025 1st (unprotected) to seal the deal?
For just those players i don't think you could get anything, you would probably have to pay to have a team take on that.
That is what's known as the "filler package". Couple it with any number of picks and it will get you pretty much any player available for trade on a max salary. Without the picks, it probably gets you Bradley Beal or Zach LaVine.
