Sort of a head-scratcher. Then again, I haven’t had time to see it, either. It’s going to be a couple of weeks, just too busy. Maybe they should have premiered it during the actual summer. Now that I think about it, it comes off as more of a date movie for me and my wife than a balls-out action flick, even if it is a balls-out action flick.
Nah, it will creep along and pay for itself internationally. And studios don't have tons of permanent staff. But the producers, next time they go asking for $, especially for a Mad Max style movie, may have a harder time. And it might do the franchise good to have a smaller budget for the next one (if there's a next one).
it’s made 90 mil worldwide after the 1st 2 weeks on a 160 mil budget with a 59% drop the 2nd weekend, and that 160 million doesn’t even include the cost of marketing…it would have to make at least double its budget just to break even, and atp, I’d be shocked if it managed that
You're prob correct. Too bad. It's so so so much better than most of the action dreck we're offered. I guess people have seen dirty people in buggies chasing a souped-up semi truck enough already. I mean, Miller started that in The Road Warrior about 40 years ago, LOL.
I talked to a coworker who was pushed to go seen Dune 2 with her kids and she ended up enjoying it. She was then made by her kids to go see Furiosa, and while she liked it fine, she did remark that she was tired of seeing sand and people in the desert. So maybe there just wasn't enough time between all the sand?
I haven’t seen this movie, and won’t until its available on streaming, but I’ve heard a bunch of good things about the film and it does have a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes…a good movie that nobody went to see the last Mad Max movie made almost 20 mil more opening weekend than this one not adjusted for inflation streaming and Covid killed movie theaters for the most part IMO…theaters still charging pandemic prices when the pandemic has been over for years, and it’s only been exacerbated with all the fear over inflation Some movies still do really well, but yeah, a massive budget for Mad Max in this day and age?
I have not been since Thunderdome That said. They have 1 week to really make an impact After that people won't go because of reviews etc rarely does the attendence go up Word of Mouth is near meaningless Beside . . . I can pay nearly 30$ (movie and snacks) / per person or use my 15.99 a month on Netflix or what ever to watch it in like 5 ~6 weeks People have come to realize. . . Meh . . I can wait Rocket River
I think the general problem is that this genre is dominated by guys Women generally don't much care for the murder and mayhem genre While is sounds stereotypical . . the numbers seem to bear it out (I would be interested to see the break down though) Hollywood is of the mind that . . . if we make Women-driven movies . . . in Male dominated genres without the hyper Masculinity that men like . . . . they will be successful What the are doing is making a movie men don't like . . . . nor do women Honestly . . . Throw some T&A in the movie .. .and dudes would have shown up Throw some Men being ubermen . . . the dudes would show up Women on the other have have no interest in either of those . .. . and it seems they don't have much interest in the genre at all They would rather watch Real Housewives of Brigerton This is not a bad thing . .. unless you making movies like Furiosa I'm not the Target audience because i'm not a big Mad Max fan But exactly WHO is the target audience Women who like Mad Max but wanted a woman instead Men Who like Mad Max but don't mind a woman protagonist (This is not that big of a Niche imo . . . .not enough to throw 160 million behind) Rocket River
I think in the end the long wait between movies is probably the biggest contributor (outside of COVID that's just damaged every movie to one degree or another) to the lower box office. I know there was a long wait between the Mel Gibson Max Max movies and Fury Road, but there was really no reason there needed to be a 9 year wait in between Fury Road and Furiosa. In the end I imagine it will probably kill any other future sequels in the series.
Anya Taylor Joy was on top of the world before this film. Now, her star power has sank as she is unable to draw in an audience like Charlize did. She can start wearing some regular clothes again. You're not all that, girl! Time for "Queen's Gambit 2: Electric Boogaloo".
