I started watching a Dick Van Dyke Special and I can't believe he is 98 years old. He sounds sharp as a tack, and doesn't look 98 at all. I would have never guessed he was 98 looking at him and hearing him talk. There is something to be said about laughter being the best medicine. Bob Hope lived to 100, and he was a great human being, and dedicated most of his life bringing laughter to our troops for years.
I swear this is the same feeling I have when I see news about Jimmy Carter. No disrespect. It’s just crazy to think he’s been old longer than Morgan Freeman.
Van Dyke was also a hell of a dancer, I'm sure that helped. He was still moving around doing this kind of stuff just a couple of years ago (loved the sidestep of the seating at the end - homage to the old show) :
From what I heard. . . . Dick is a work out beast too . . .even at 98 makes me ashamed of myself Rocket River
What a great actor and comedian, to be honest I thought he had passed but glad to see he is still kicking, he seems just a genuine good dude.....your right Deb, laughter is the best medicine
Hmmm. I saw this old documentary about him and his early life as a chimney sweep in London...pretty sure he's British.
He wrote about how a doctor told him his arthritis would be so debilitating that the prognosis would be that he'd be in a wheelchair in a decade or two. Van Dyke chose to dance despite the pain and has been doing it ever since. Wow, he remarried at 86.
