All Kyrie wanted was to be loved and embraced...instead, we gave $40M (same amount Dallas is paying Kyrie) to a fringe All-star in FVV. Granted, I actually like FVV, but you should only pay that type of money to impact players such as Kyrie who can take over a game, take over a series, and more than anything Win When It Matters Most (ask LeBron - Kyrie saved him game 7 vs Warriors)... I think we chose wrong. Prove me wrong...

ah yes the moron who refused to get the vaccine, posted an incredibly insensitive video to twitter and didn't apologize, and left his team high and dry; he should have got more money from us so he can lead this young guys lol

The mavs made a risky move and got kyrie for a bag of chips that worked out for them but this is just revisionist history

    1) it takes 2 to tango
    2) you are PRESUMING / ASSUMING that Kyrie would have been ok coming to Htown
    3) Mavs gave up some assets to get Kyrie and I am confident that it was for more than 1 year rental (actually just a few months at that point)
    4) no one can PROVE you wrong - unless they have a time machine or Dark Matter (IYKYK)

The assets were a bag of chips for high risk high reward for them - now they're in the Finals and we'll be competing again for a Play-In spot for the next foreseeable future with "our current roster"...the West has gotten better
This is what the Mavs traded to get Kyrie:
    Spencer Dinwiddie
    Dorian Finney-Smith
    2027 second-round pick
    2029 first-round pick (unprotected)
    2029 second round-pick

He refused to get the vaccine and was correct. The documentary was not insensitive or antisemitic because there is actual proof of Jewish owned slave trips from jewish sources:

    https://jewishinsider.com/2021/10/r...wish-slave-holder-and-confederate-mastermind/

I don't know where this antisemitic crap comes from with Kyrie honestly.

How? Hold a gun to his head? Force him to sign here? Reportedly planned to take meetings and then didn’t.

He was gonna leave the Mavs and Luka to come to what had been the worst team in the league and [team] reputation in the gutter? (Granted, the Mavs were coming off a losing season and his own rep in the tank.) And we can’t even use the tax excuse or “he would’ve made more here than Dallas!”

While not what you’d want from a team leader history has sort of proven him kind of right or at least sort of justified in his vaccine stance.

Uhhh.....the Rockets improved by nearly 20 wins this year, that's basically the most you can possibly hope for - good luck to Kyrie Irving doing any better than that.

Maybe we can start a "We could have gotten Jaylen Brown" thread too... or a "We could have traded for PJ Washington" thread.... or a "We could have drafted Ben Lively" thread.... or a, well you get the point. Or not. Either way. Who really cares.

Pointless thread and you were still proven wrong by JR. Nice try though.

^The worst thing about antivax morons is that they never fade away, always broadcasting their galaxy brain dipshittery when nobody asked.

Anyway thanks for the contribution Aaron!

I am not going to get into the video and the vaccine politics of it but it was incredibly moronic of kyrie to do that and it's the first stop he's caused trouble at

while I like Kyrie, he would’ve been the best player here by far surrounded by a bunch of young dudes who have never played winning basketball

Kyrie is best as a #2

and just stop it with the “Kyrie is antisemetic” nonsense

by that logic, we could've had Luka Doncic as well..

After the 2016-17 season, I was one of the few on these forums to say we should tank hard for Luka and rest Harden that year because he looked like a ghost in the playoffs vs the Spurs and obviously, instead Morey traded for CP3 and we had a historical heartbreaking end to that 2018 playoffs.

He posted a blatantly antisemitic documentary, then gave a non-apology "I'm sorry you were offended" apology while never explicitly denouncing the content in said documentary. At best he has no problem with far-right antisemitic rhetoric. That's why people are calling him antisemitic. You can disagree about how deep into the rabbit hole he is on that stuff, and to be fair, it's not really clear whether he even watched the whole thing he posted, but he's clearly a nutjob who has at least one foot in reactionary conspiracy theory land

I’m vaxxed with one booster. I didn’t start that discussion in the thread either.

Kyrie being allowed to attend games but not play in them was way dumber than him not wanting to get the vaccine. But folks will die on this hill forever.
