If we don't have a dynasty brewing after this stretch of draft picks we're moving the franchise to Galveston.

    "Pelicans" is already taken.

    "Seawalls"? Nah.
    "Gaidos"? Nah.

They could be the Galveston Cruise Ships. More of a natural transition from Rockets.

    More like #2 #17 #3 #16 #4 #20 #3. . . . and more to come with those swaps and high picks. The #17 #16 #20 have arguably been higher performers than #2 #3 #4.

Anything other than the Galveston Mosquitoes would be a travesty.

Plenty of teams get high picks, but they key to taking the next step is a 1A player, and we lack that at the moment. Could one of our guys become that, sure, but its not here at the moment.

Without that, our 2024-2025 could look a lot like the 2023 Kings, 3rd in the west, no real it player, then when the it player matters most (playoffs) we are 1 and done.

Yeah, the thing is you still gotta hit on a franchise-altering star player, and even in the top 4, the odds of that are not good.

For example, In the 2010s, there were (obviously) 40 top four picks. Out of those forty players, I count 9 perennial/frequent all-stars, and out of those guys, a maximum of 5 and maybe as few as 2 (depending on how you feel about guys like Tatum, AD, Kyrie, etc) were true superstar MVP contending "best player on a championship contender" type of dudes.

So at best, each year you have maybe a 1 in 4ish chance of getting a perennial all-star and maybe as little as a 5% of getting an MVP contending superstar. So even with four years of top 4 picks, odds are not in favor of us getting one of those guys.

That's what people need to understand when they talk about guys like Jabari being a bust--it's never as common to hit on these picks as fans expect. The norm or median outcome in the top 4 is to get something more like a quality starter.

Godd**nit, I shoulda thunk of that!

Guess I haven't been there in a few years. Thanks to the aforementioned jellyfish I encountered last visit.

That can only be the case when you draft good players.

The #2 was spent on a draft bust, the first #3 was spent on a 3 and D PF with a low ceiling, the #4 was spent on an athlete that will hopefully learn how to play basketball one day....that's not really the foundation for a "dynasty"

    lol I like this thread

Funny thing is, our three best players are:
    • #16
    • Undrafted
    • #17
Last year's #4 and #20 look promising though.
