Me and my friends were just sitting around and got to wondering, "What would be the All-Time starters?". Mine are: Pg Magic Johnson Sg Michael Jordan Sf Larry Bird Pf Karl Malone (although i dont like him at all) C Wilt Chamberlin Centers is the postion i had most trouble with, you have so many greats to choose from;Hakeem,Shaq, Kareem, and so many others. So i was wondering what yall think would be the starters for your all time nba team.
One of these threads again? PG - Magic Johnson SG - Michael Jordan PF - Karl Malone (disgusting - wanted to put Kevin McHale in here, but...) SF - Larry Bird C - Wilt Chamberlain Hmm... we agree.
Hakeem Olajuwon - Complete package. I really believe if he was on highly-marketable team like the Lakers or Knicks, and if he had another side kick superstar throughout his career, he would probably be considered one of the top three players of all time. Karl Malone - though he can go **** himself Bird - Clutch as they come. Plus there aren't that many great small forwards. Jordan - Though I dont like him. Magic - could play five positions and singlehandedly won the championship in his rookie season.
Magic Jordan Bird KG Wilt/Russell - It's a toss up. Am I the only one that would stick KG at the PF. I figure there's enough scoring with just Bird and Jordan. And KG runs the floor almost as well as KM and also gives you so much on the defensive end.
I don't know. KM is sturdy, I'll give you that. But KG is a pretty darn good one on one defender in his own right. You might even say Damn Good. And he's been relentless on the boards the last couple of years. I never saw KM when he was younger, but I got plenty of looks at him during his finals runs. I'll take the KG of today over the KM of 96-98.
PG - Magic / Big O SG - Jordan / Logo SF - Bird / Dr. J PF - Duncan / Malone C - Wilt / Hakeem You could argue Russell or Kareem at the 5, and maybe move Robertson to the 2 and Stockton as the 1. Hard not to consider Duncan to be one of the two greatest PFs ever.
A few years ago Sports Illustrated did an a rticle on the all time all star teams for each of the major sports. For the NBA, you got a 12 man roster. A lot of the names you are reading here came up. One thing the writter said that I liked was why he chose Russell as the center of "his" team. Something to the effect of "I don't want to get into the whole Chamberline/Russel debate, but this team is not going to have any trouble scoring. I want a defensive monster in the middle". Can't go wrong with Olajuwon!
You Karl Malone supporters suck. For my team, I'm taking the one guy who you could always count on to neutralize Karla. The Worm, baby! C: Wilt Chamberlain PF: Dennis Rodman SF: Larry Bird SG: Michael Jordan PG: Magic Johnson
