Yeriel Santos turned in a fine outing for Fayetteville: 5 IP, 2 H, BB, 6 K

    ... and Alain Pena completed the shutout: 4 IP, H, 2 BB, 5 K

It is a very small sample size, but some how Abreu has gone 2 for 10 with an rbi and 5 K’s.

Yeah just bizarre.. 5 K’s really alarming… but EV well over 100 is very positive. He is a weird guy.

Toby Keith once sung a song that pretty much typifies what Abreu is currently dealing with…

He's been impeckoble this May 0.86 ERA across 21 IP with 4 BBs to 25Ks. Wonder if they'll push him to Asheville.

He's definitely a guy to follow. Love his consistent delivery.

I’ll be curious as well. Last year he almost walked away from the game because of stress - so I’ll be watching to see how that impacts his promotions.

Minor leaguer hitters who are severely struggling and why:

Striking out too much without enough power to make up for it: Tyler Whitaker, Garret Guillemette, Rolando Espinosa, Fernando Caldera, Jackson Loftin, Zach Daniels

Not hitting for power: Jeremy Arocho, Kenedy Corona, Xavier Caserilla, Cesar Hernandez, Ryan Wrobleski, JC Correa, Alberto Hernandez

    Low babip: Jacob Amaya

Let's see how I did after the first two months...

    1. Breakouts
Waner Luciano - struggling, but considering he's a teenager in his first go-round in a full-season league, not the end of the world
Andrew Taylor - just landed on the 60-day IL, so... welp

    2. Make-or-break players

Alex Santos - Well, he started the season in Corpus, but it's broken down pretty quickly
Justin Dirden - Good luck in the next chapter of your life
Sandy Gaston - One year in Fayetteville broke him
Pedro Leon - Seems like he's putting it all together, but if he was in Houston he probably wouldn't be playing at all
Cristian Gonzalez - hurt again, and unfortunately his time might be up

    3. Sleepers

Sandy Mejia - Shown flashes along with the inconsistency expected for someone in full-season ball for the first time. Hopefully 5 shutout innings last night is a sign that he's starting to get on track.
Raimy Rodriguez - has gotten smacked recently, but again, the only expectation for him this year should be keeping his head above water
Cam Fisher - power is real, concerns about whether he'll ever make enough contact to get to that power are extremely real
Sandro Pereira, Eduardo Perez - another year in the DSL awaits, which is fine

The system is just so hard to predict. The lack of clear top prospects, lingering effects of the pandemic on development, the fact that the current GM is only in his 2nd season, the general unpredictability of pitching prospects…all make it so that from one month to the next, guys can completely change their trajectory/ranking.
