Various companies have been showing these off for a few years now (yes, with gun attachments). These look very Boston Dynamics-like. But I guess pretty much all dogbots are starting to look similar nowadays.

One way or another China wants to catch up in STEM.

With restrictions on sharing/sending/selling certain CPU chips to China, they have been working to become more self sufficient.

It has been a good while since I have been in a Tech discussion, so not sure of this web site. It does read similar to other reports/stories about this topic.

Report: China Pivot From AMD & Intel CPUs to Domestic Chips In Government PCs

China has initiated a policy shift to eliminate American processors from government computers and servers, reports Financial Times. The decision is aimed to gradually eliminate processors from AMD and Intel from system used by China's government agencies, which will mean lower sales for U.S.-based chipmakers and higher sales of China's own CPUs.

The new procurement guidelines, introduced quietly at the end of 2023, mandates government entities to prioritize 'safe and reliable' processors and operating systems in their purchases. This directive is part of a concerted effort to bolster domestic technology and parallels a similar push within state-owned enterprises to embrace technology designed in China.

The list of approved processors and operating systems, published by China's Information Technology Security Evaluation Center, exclusively features Chinese companies. There are 18 approved processors that use a mix of architectures, including x86 and ARM, while the operating systems are based on open-source Linux software. Notably, the list includes chips from Huawei and Phytium, both of which are on the U.S. export blacklist.

If there were an invasion, I think a prolonged bombardment of autonomous and semi autonomous drones would be more chilling than hearing missile sirens.

But since we've been hearing CIA-ish peaks about the pla using "rocket fuel for cooking hot pot" (unlikely), they're probably using their murder dogs on their own people before looking across the pond

They're stretching the limits of 5mm DUV photolithography and the Biden admin politely asked ASML not to sell them any more of those machines even if the bleeding edge for that older method is considered five six years behind.

The US has a lot of clout no doubt, but asml wouldn't take it quietly if European opinion of China didn't sour dramatically after Russia invaded Ukraine. Kind of opened their eyes that you can't trade them into prosperity and Democracy.

If Shein and Temu have taught me anything, it's that I could buy machine gun dog for $3.87 and it would work for about two shots and a mechanical piss on a tree...and then never work again.

    Not skeerd.

Within 2 yrs . .. it will be at your Local Police Departments
Cause they cannot be outgunned and it will "protect police lives" who "just want to go home to their families"
so they will send these things into buildings and neighborhoods "too dangerous for policE" to shoot
scatter shot at everything moving. . . .and it they hit a few innocent people. . .will those people
should have armed themselves with their own dogs and should not have been resisting but running
    from the scary armed dogbots

With a fairly tight linkage between the Chinese government and their Tech companies, being denied the latest Tech is going to make them more determined to develop their own Tech. It might take a while, but I wouldn't under estimate them. There is also Taiwan to consider.

ASML adds remote kill switch to TSMC’s EUV machines in case China invades Taiwan - report

ASML has reportedly installed a kill switch into an extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machine it has sold to TSMC, allowing it to be shut down if China invades Taiwan.

According to a report from Bloomberg, ASML has allegedly reassured the Dutch government it has the ability to remotely disable the machine should an invasion occur.

Although no detailed information about the logistics of this remote shutdown has been disclosed, it’s believed the kill switch was added during the regular servicing and updating of the machine.

ASML has also reportedly run simulations on a possible invasion in order to better assess any potential risks.

The Netherlands-based company is the sole global supplier of EUV photolithography machines needed to make the most advanced 2nm chips.

In recent months, ASML has been at the center of the US government’s ongoing trade war with China, with the Dutch government increasingly succumbing to pressure from the Biden administration to block exports of its products to China.

In January 2024, the Dutch government revoked an export license to stop the shipment of two older lithography machines to Chinese customers.

While the invasion remains hypothetical, there have long been concerns that China could attempt to reunify the sovereign state of Taiwan with mainland China, with the Chinese government officially regarding the country as a breakaway province.

A speech given by Chen Wenling, chief economist for the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, in May 2022 saw him warn that should Russian-style sanctions be imposed on China by the US and allies, China "must recover Taiwan" and "seize TSMC, a company that originally belonged to China."

US military academics have also previously suggested that if China invades Taiwan, the country should instigate a ‘scorched earth policy’ and destroy its own semiconductor foundries in order to make itself a less useful and unattractive target.

Earlier this month, the US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, told the House Appropriations Committee that a hypothetical Chinese invasion of Taiwan and seizure of TSMC would be “absolutely devastating” for the United States.

The United States buys 92 percent of its leading-edge chips from TSMC in Taiwan, meaning any disruption to that supply chain would have a significant impact on the US economy and data center market.

    __________
I thought about India, but I don't remember reading about them being close to the leading/bleeding edge on this Technology.

Maybe the UK and some EU countries don't belong, in the conversation, but there are also parts of China that don't belong in the count either. So left them in rather than get too fancy with the counting criteria.

These population numbers might be off slightly, but close enough for the moment.

    China................1,416,043,270

    E.U.......................448,922,216
    United States......341,963,408
    Japan...................123,201,945
    UK..........................70,000,000
    South Korea..........52,081,799
    Taiwan...................23,595,274
    ________________________________
    Total...................1,059,764,642

Count the population of the US twice and the above is roughly equal to the population of China.

Via Investment in STEM and other methods of acquiring Tech knowledge, I wouldn't dismiss the ability of China to to make significant advances in this area.
