Yes agree on Jalen’s vision. Edwards tries to make a lot of difficult cross court passes to the corners or wings resulting in TO’s. He doesn’t have the same touch as he forces passes in the paint or zips them out hot when he’s in traffic. Jalen haters overlook his crisp passes into the paint from 20-24 ft. Like one he bounced passed from top of the key to Amen in the paint for an easy dunk against MIA late in the season. He also zips quick hitters to the roll man as teams double him off the pick and roll or passes well off a drive to cutters or short corners. Jalen isn’t great at cross court passes or finding shooters on perimeter. But many underestimate his passing.
Its just MY assessment. Im rooting for Ant Man and Minn. And mind you, I must admit, Ive watch a lot of Rocket's games but only a few Timberwolves games. And from the games I've seen, including last night, Ant's game looked erily similar to Jalen's. Especially in the later part of the 3rd and the 4th qrs last night. He drove several times too far into the lane, which resulted into turnovers or block shots. I think Ant is benefiting a lot from playing with an older more complete roster, which allows him to hide a lot of his flaws. He is a good player that is still developing and I think similar to Jalen, they are going to need several more yrs to fully understand the game.
I don’t think they are miles apart either. The problem is the thing that is holding Jalen back more than strength or anything else is his shooting, and that has only gotten worse over three years. If there is not a tangible improvement in that area by Christmas, they are going to have to transition to something different. I’m not sure if that’s simply reduced minutes for Jalen, a different offense, a trade.. whatever needs to happen should be implemented by the new year.
This. He just doesn’t shoot well enough. I’m also on this timeline of making a decision by the end of Dec.
Strength helps you get easy shots. Compare with Luka, who is a good, though not unusual pure shooter. Yet Luka always gets a good look because he is strong and big enough to comfortably shoot fadeaways out to the 3pt line. He also gets a lot of easy layups because he can bully other players. Ant gets those same layups. Jalen is 40 pounds lighter than Ant and 50 pounds lighter than Luka. That's not a small thing.
Can Green become Edwards? Sure in the same way that Edwards can become Michael Jordan. It could happen, it just probably wont. Edwards genuinely gives a **** about winning. It bothers him to lose. He knows he shouldn't be down in this series. Jalen doesn't have this mental makeup. He's aloof. He's so unbelievably talented that he's gotten this far but he doesn't have that anger that Edwards has to be elite. There's a place for Jalen in the league but he isn't going to be a star. He'll have his March months where everything lines up and he looks like a world beater. But clock strikes midnight and he reverts back into a pumpkin. He's like mini-Zion. Could run the league if he wanted to. Just doesn't want to.
people who never played don’t understand that having a better team makes you better. Players share knowledge and insights. Some players presence or work ethic motivates others. While others may be great at getting others involved and opens up the game for everyone. Iron sharpens iron. Just being in a winning environment makes Players better. And it all comes to fruition when you have a very good team that is like minded and dedicated to a goal. This is why teams have vet leadership. If you’re on a **** team and you’re a rookie or young player with no guidance or know how-how can you be great? I think Rockets management are partly to be blamed as the first 2 years were a bit wasted in my opinion with little vet presence and guidance.
These type of platitudes Like where do you get these narratives? Ant joined a team that retooled rather than stripped down to a complete rebuild. He joined a team with a Generational stretch center and then got a generational defensive big. That's pretty much the main difference in team success. I don't know what you think Ant does in a Silas/KPJ led team.
You don’t even have to play the game to understand team dynamics. Good functional teams in any industry or field are built on the same foundations (leadership, technical knowledge, work ethic etc). Just by being in a good environment with other motivated, like minded, and knowledgeable people will make you better. Its common sense. Many people here on this site don’t seem to understand or accept this reality.
Green should be the sg version of ja morant. He's not gonna be strong enough ever to replicate what Luka or Ant does
It's not a small thing to overcome, either. What you're saying is that it wouldn't even matter if Jalen worked on his shot this offseason, and maybe that's correct. But Jalen bulking up (especially to the tune of 40 pounds) would almost certainly cost him some of the other things that make him such a tantalizing prospect. Right now, I'd prefer he worked on the shot more than the strength.
I believe he can. I don't think he's far away already. Put Green on the Timberwolves and the results wouldn't be much different. I think Green mentally has more upside as a basketball player as well. But that would all depend on how good Edwards really is. To me, he's still the player who led Team USA to a loss against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Team Canada 8 months ago. I don't value Edwards as much as the average person started to this year. SGA is still better, and he's an easier comparison for Green. The main difference between SGA and Green is SGA puts up more shots and probably gets more touches. Green averages 16 shots per game to SGA's 20. Green played 82 games this season and generally looks very healthy. SGA struggles to stay on the court. Did Green's usage help him stay healthy? Did SGA's usage cause him to get injured? Edwards looks athletic now, but I wouldn't be surprised if Green has the healthiest career. I believe in his body shape and playing style more than the others.
LOL there’s no way u actually believe this…or maybe you’re doing some sort of troll post and I misunderstood Jalen would be glued to the bench if he was on the Wolves Ant is a legitimate star player…Jalen isn’t even a top 100 player The main difference between Green and SGA is just that SGA puts up more shots? yeah, this gotta be a troll post…maybe it’s on me for taking the bait
LOL blaming Green's teammates who are all better than him in terms of shooting %, efficiency, winning, and defense
As others have said, i dont think they're as far apart as everyone is making it seem. Edwards has shown this serious how human he is and his downsides. Not saying that Green will be as good, but I think his ceiling is pretty damn close. He absolutely has the potential to be a superstar JA morant level.
Yeah, just not same body type. ANT just bulldozes everyone on his way to the rim - also this thread was posted when Ant was carrying the team, he in fact suffers from being a young inexperienced player just like Jalen does, If we have to pick a player to compare styles Ja Morant is a good comparison but the fact remains that he's also far from that still. Again, not sure why this is hard to admit - whatever his ceiling is, and whatever the cause is, the guy is on a slower development path than expected. Still needs to improve a lot on his handles, his vision, his playmaking, scoring, etc etc. He's also not shown us much that he'll get to that level frankly based on the last 3 years.Stans keep harping on his legendary athleticism and his talent in all sorts of super abstract ways and nothing else - why don't we just make players run or do gym drills then before the draft then, and just measure their speed and physical traits, and that should basically tell us how successful they will be, right? That's just a very surface level view of the game that's been proven wrong time and time - I'll say this again, athleticism is a tool and a trait, it's not really a skill by itself, tools are meaningless if you don't know how to use them, and JG is using his athleticism in a very 1-dimensional way right now. He's also not an elite scorer, not an innate passer or playmaker, not a willing defender. I mean just look at how Luka being as slow as he is plays with speed and deceleration and starts and stops. That's weaponizing speed (even when you don't have it lol). I don't recall which comment that was, but yeah, weaponizing his athleticism is an absolute must for him. One of the biggest issues IMO is his speed and athleticism is not commensurate with the rest of his skills - and that's tough to do when you are that fast. I'd take a JG who's consistently a 18 - 20 ppg well-rounded, dependable player over an entire season than the JG we have now. He should slow down and get there first before we talk about ANT and Morant level impact. I'm not one of those weirdos who goes around with a hate boner for any player who's just 21 years old, but facts are facts. Blame the coaching, the FO, the tanking for it - it's not entirely JG's fault, but let's be frank he's not entirely blameless either. At the end of the day you are asking a lot of people to have faith - faith that comes easier to you than the rest of us because you liked that player from the start. I understand why that ends up with us talking past each other because some of us don't roll that way. I want to look at past data and numbers and probabilities - and I'm fully aware of the flaws of that as well, maybe it's what makes us miss enigmatic, once-in-a-blue-moon players that can be huge stars like JG out of nowhere with no similar precedent in history (although I'd say the likelihood of making a wrong decision is still lower that way). Not saying one approach is right or wrong, just trying to explain why all this back and forth feels unproductive - we should just agree to disagree and move on, no amount of bickering here makes a player better or worse, and no org is making decisions based on what's being said on CF or Twitter or Reddit.
Again people refuse to accept that players play better in a winning environment with vet leadership and players who understand their roles and share a common goal. Edwards has always been blessed with having been surrounded by vet leadership ever since year 1. He had guys like Beasley, KAT, Rubio, Russell to lean on for advice and guidance. The Wolves added a few more savvy vets last couple years including slo mo and Conneley. Guys who have had success and playoff experience. Guys that know how to execute. To not understand or accept this simple concept means willful ignorance and stubbornness.
