I find it interesting that executives collectively see him as a bench player while fans see him as a starter or even a minor star in time......
I hate these anonymous executive quotes. This kind of things can get a GM fired or at least embarrassed if said player turns out to be great and they know it. They don't have the balls to come right out to say it in the open. That said, it could also be some smoke screen to lower a guy's stock in order that other teams don't nab him before his turn.
It's not that interesting, it's just clear that the fans on CF are working themselves into a shoot and thinking a player is way better than he projects to be. I'm more inclined to side with the people who do this for a living.
You know, I fell for the CJ being an Ohio St QB stigma, coupled with some BS testing and him not being built like Richardson or Levis bias. I was wrong and damn if I'll let a bunch of media hypos change my view again. Reed is a baller. He loves the game and he plays it the way it was meant to be played. He was the 5th recruit to KY and basically out played them all and has positioned himself to likely be the highest drafted. So all the naysayers can keep doubting and nitpicking him or categorizing him as a "role player" (even though 90% of NBA players probably are), but I see him as a kid that is going to give you everything he's got, every night and not worry about his stats, "influencer" rankings or anything that doesn't contribute to winning. He's simply the kind of guy you want on your team because he's talented, humble, and a great teammate.
It might be unprofessional for executives to make their scouting reports on prospects public record. Worse than embarrassment if a prospect turns out great, it could alienate that player or their agent down the line. There is no benefit to making that criticism public. Many of the best players hold grudges and will remember GMs that didn't have faith in them, making it harder to recruit them in the future. Forget about not having the balls to come right out and say it in the open, it's more like they have the brains not to do so. Even if the player comparison isn't meant to be critical, it could be taken that way. Giannis' assistant coach Josh Oppenheimer tried to compare him to a decent NBA player as motivation. It did not go over well.
If Sheppard is that good, why won't the Washington take him at #2? You guys have 99 out of 100 posts are about Sheppard, shouldn't we get some insurance policies?
Wizards are taking Sarr or Risacher because they have more superstar upside. Wizards are not in the same stage of a rebuild as we are. We have plenty of young talent already and most of them can't shoot. We need a guy who can shoot so we don't have such a horrible offense like we did last year. Reed could peak as an elite role player like JJ Reddick or he can be the next Klay Thompson lite.
Do you remember us getting Banchero'd? All the threads were debating him as the buzz was that Smith would go 1 and Holmgren would go 2. It wasn't until draft day that the news suddenly speculated that Orlando would take Banchero. If Sarr drops to 3 this year I doubt anyone complains. If he and Sheppard are off the table it's probably a debate between Risacher and Clingan, with people likely preferring the former.
Does Monte Morris have a 40 inch vertical? I'm not really on board with picking Sheppard. I see Sheppard more as a Conley type PG.
I haven't watched every 3 but this matches up with what I saw in games that I've watched. He's already one of the best 3pt shooters in the world. But, he hasn't really shown ability to create space off the dribble other than basically dribbling into deeper territory than the defense was willing to defend. The one thing I wouldn't worry about is if he's 'not a movement shooter off screens'. Sheppard will adjust and be more of a movement shooter in the nba. I would expect that to be some of the first plays he works on with his new team.
I find it intersting that executives "who work for NBA teams remain all over the map with Sheppard" while some fans only see him as a bench player.
If I was a rival GM, I'd anonymously talk down the best players and hype up the brick Castle knowing that Stone might just be dumb enough to blow this pick
Yeah, he shoots well at C&S while moving. In fact, IIRC most of his shots are moving shots either dribbling or catching, just not off screens.
It took the middle of the second half before coach Cal realized it was a 1 3 1 match up zone and when it was too late then he put guys in the corner. He always said I don’t worry about what teams do they have to worry about us.
