Taken a lot of work and self-help... but I can graciously say I'm ok with my expectations being taken down a few pegs for the remainder of this year.
Something is up with Javier. His strikeout rate is falling and his velocity is down and he isn’t carrying the velocity the second time through the order. While his inability to avoid high pitch counts and go only 5 innings bothers me - that isn’t what this is. He has gone from almost unhittable to pedestrian. Hopefully it is only a strain - but I think there is a real chance it is more than that.
I wonder if the team thinks Blubaugh is ready for primetime? Him and I guess Colton Gordon seem like the only viable AAA options. I know they signed Lauer, but his decreased velocity has been obliterated by AAA pitching the last 2 seasons, I would want to see at least some results before I run him out there to get crushed in an MLB game. Hopefully at least one of Javier or Urquidy won't be out long. Brown and Arrighetti are pitching better, but we're down to 5 starters now.
The Astros will likely be a great team the rest of the year. The problem is that they started crappy and dug themselves a big hole such that that might not be enough. They've been back to being one of the best teams in the AL for about a month.
Do I think this team will win the WS, no, but I will root for them knowing that this just doesn't seem to be our year. I think we have some awesome pieces but as a team something is missing, we`ve had some incredibly bad luck with our pitching staff and our new manager doesn't seem to have what it takes to motivate this crew and on top of his questionable calls I think he is out after this year. We`ve had a hell of a run and I am not throwing in the towel, I just don't think we have the juice this year. I`ll enjoy it while not expecting too much
Episode 64 is up. We talk about the team we are as we pass the Memorial Day milepost. Please check it out- listen and subscribe!
Jake Meyers is second on the team in fWAR. He's 27th in the MLB in fWAR and has the lowest PA of anyone in the top 27. He has the second highest fWAR amongst CF in the MLB, behind Aaron Judge. His Baseball Savant page is lit up with red. What do we have here? A legitimate star?
My guess is that he's like Chas before this year. Maybe a better version when prior to the season I thought he was a lot like Chas in value, but a slightly lesser version.
McCormick got red hot for a while last year and was sporting a .950 OPS for a bit. Was like the 4th most productive outfielder in MLB for a few months. Now look at him. Let’s see if Jake keeps it up.
I think Blubaugh could have success if called upon even if he hasn't sustained his torrid early season numbers. That guy seems to pitch in ABQ or Reno every other stat which is probably tougher than pitching against a few big league teams lol so he has been put through the ringer but has handled his business all the same.
https://www.camdenchat.com/2024/2/28/24083028/orioles-40-man-roster-kaleb-ort No idea who he is . . . seems like a project . . . at the age of 32? Maybe someone can teach him a cambio.
And I thought Speas was the worst we could do. 21 hits and 10 walks in 12.2 innings. Least his HR rate is down this year (2.3/9 to 1.4).
To this point- I would absolutely expect someone to do better pitching in the major leagues at a league neutral park than AAA in ABQ or Reno.
Chas before this year was a borderline star And if he gets a chance again, he likely will be that this year
Which version of Chas is Chas? Should it be a no-brainer that he’s out there everyday presuming he gets back to the good version? Or was last year the career year despite Baker benching him far too often?
