What happened to Dezenzo and Matthews? (every time I see his full name I think of Bruce Matthews, because I am old)
Hell if I know, sometimes they let it rest, and sometimes it's straight to surgery. All I do know is forearm pain is the tell-tale sign
I think Matthews injured his back about a month ago. Dezenzo was hurt going into spring training, but as able to field in a few big league spring training games, but not hit. He was put on the IL when the minor league season started. I wanna say I saw someone post that it was his wrist.
Anthony Huezo hit his second homer of the season to cap off today's 6-2 win for the FCL Astros. I imagine Dezenzo had surgery at some point between March and now, so we probably won't see him until mid-August at the earliest.
So what’s the plan with Leon? He’s ready, but no room. Is someone getting moved soon for a SP? Him, McCormick, Loperfido, Meyers?
I gotta think Kessinger goes down when Abreu comes up. Could be Loperfido, probably will be, but I don't like it. There's just no room for Leon at this point. If Abreu gets the axe, you'd think Leon would be the guy to replace him.
Yeah, Kessinger is somewhat a waste of a spot right now, and I guess Leon could play a little infield if needed in that situation. Outside of Tucker, none of the OF on the roster can leave the next few years, so someone should be moved for a quality SP. I do wish Loperfido got more ABs, and with Abreu coming back to be the sub 1B that means more dubon in OF, less ABs for Lope.
I don’t want to see Pedro Leon brought up to be the 12th or 13th position player. It already feels like Loperfido is being wasted as the 11th or 12th guy. Let the season progress and see if a significant injury opens up an appropriate role or see if a team offers enough at the deadline. Leon (like Loperfido) is playing well, but he’s not playing so well that he’s unquestionably worth displacing a proven player from the big league roster. Patience wins the day.
Michael Knorr got tagged for a couple of runs right after coming on but he righted the ship: 4 IP, 4 H (solo HR allowed), 2 ER, BB, 6 K
Loperfido has lost all playing time due to Meyers' hot streak and Chas' return. Kessinger also never plays. The Astros are playing w/ 11 position players. Either can be sent down for Abreu w/ little impact. The impact will be from whomever is sitting on the bench while Abreu plays. As for Leon I agree he is ready but has been overtaken by Loperfido. Cabbage is also ahead if him if a 5th OF is needed. I only see Leon in Houston if there is a trade or injury to Meyers or Tucker. If it's Chas, I just see him being replaced by Loperfido as a platoon/util guy. Only a prolonged starting opening in RF or CF would open a spot for Leon at this point. If Tucker wasn't so good in RF, I would suggest moving HIM to 1B and platoon Leon and Loperfido in RF.
Austin Deming has homered in back-to-back games for Asheville; he hit a three-run shot last night and a two-run homer today, giving him three on the year.
