Kyle Rittenhouse shot three white dudes. He was in lawful possession of the rifle.

Thanks for clarifying that. I had no idea minors could carry weapons designed to kill in mass legally there. That's stupidity at its best allowing kids to walk around with AR-15's on the streets. Sounds like a recipe for disaster with young gang bangers and thugs of all colors walking around acting like soldiers armed and loaded.

Voters still aren’t buying GOP’s line on Trump’s hush money trial

A CBS poll found 56% of Americans agreeing that the presumptive Republican nominee is either definitely or probably guilty. This comes on the heels of a Yahoo News/YouGov survey that found 52% of Americans agreeing that Trump falsified business records to obscure the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, and a 47% plurality said the former president committed a crime in the process. Both of those numbers went up as the trial progressed.

    That data followed a
national poll from Quinnipiac University, which found a 46% plurality agreed that Trump did something illegal in the hush money scandal. This was roughly consistent with the latest national survey from the Pew Research Center, which found that 45% of Americans believe that Trump’s actions were illegal.

It says one of the worst written laws. Minors can't possess guns that are already illegal...

It can't have been the intent of the majority lawmakers to ban guns that were already banned. But what can you do?

You need to read up on your 2nd Amendment fetishist paraphernalia: black kids with guns in public are thugs and get shot by police; white kids with guns in public are patriots and take pictures with cops

MAGA rally and photo op recruiters will be banging on your door Buck if they think you are serious. They might even add you to their list for future Trump's brown shirt special forces. Shhhhh

But, if you have an itch for the political arena, that would make a good pitch for a MAGA candidate.

Libertarian convention devolves into fighting, obscenities on eve of Trump’s visit

Donald Trump won’t be speaking to his usual self-selected crowd of adoring red-hatted MAGA fans when he addresses the Libertarian National Convention on Saturday.

As delegates gathered at the Washington Hilton on the eve of his speech, the party’s decision to host the former president, which had split the organization, erupted Friday into open revolt. Fuming delegates at the convention said they plan to protest Trump’s speech, and one group sought unsuccessfully to remove the former president along with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., from the agenda — a move that resulted in thrown punches and obscenities between supporters and opponents of the move.

“I would like to propose that we go tell Donald Trump to go **** himself!” Kaelan Dreyer, a Libertarian from New Mexico, yelled into a microphone, winning cheers from the crowd. After shouting vulgarities at the convention’s chair and fending off punches, he was led out of the convention hall.

The raucous opening to the convention reflects the pockets of hostility that Trump faces as he appeals to the Libertarians to help him box out a growing, third-party threat from Kennedy’s independent presidential campaign.

“The vast majority of Libertarian Party members are not happy with this invitation,” said Bill Redpath, a 40-year veteran of the Libertarian Party and a former national party chair who’s helped organize their presidential ballot access for decades. “There are some people who call Trump the most Libertarian president of our lifetimes. That’s utterly ridiculous.”

Suburban Philadelphia options trader Jeff Yass, a libertarian and one of the GOP’s biggest donors, who was not in attendance at the convention, said it was “unclear” whether Trump could make inroads with libertarian voters. Yass, who bankrolled an effort to stop Trump from winning the Republican nomination and financed several of his primary opponents, has said he doesn’t plan to contribute to Trump, but will vote for him.

“He has some libertarian instincts for sure. Anti-war is big,” said Yass, who has also praised Trump for his support for education reform policies, which the two have spoken about. “But anti-immigrant, anti-free trade are not good.”

Trump advisers say they plan to use his Saturday speech to highlight the overlap in Trump’s policies with those embraced by right-leaning libertarians. Richard Grenell, a former Trump cabinet official who is widely expected to play a role in a potential second Trump administration, has been reaching out to Libertarian Party leaders and activists, as has Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a libertarian-leaning Republican. Trump allies say the goal isn’t necessarily to dominate among libertarian voters, but rather minimize defections to a third-party candidate. During the 2020 campaign, Libertarian Party candidate Jo Jorgensen drew more votes in some key states than the margin separating Trump and now-President Joe Biden.

rittenhouse had a friend buy the gun for him since he legally couldn't. The friend was originally charged with a felony for purchasing the gun illegally for a minor but a soft judge allowed a plea bargain down to a misdemeanor ($2,000 fine) "described as a "form of punishment and a deterrence" to anyone thinking of purchasing such as firearm for a minor." rittenhouse was able to use a loophole to avoid his own misdemeanor for being a minor in possession of a gun.

All this is a great argument for why we need strong *nation-wide* gun laws.

    SOME sanity. For now...

North Carolina House pauses passage of bill that would ban masking for health reasons

    Updated 4:50 PM EDT, May 22, 2024

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina bill partially meant to address mask-wearing at protests was under review Wednesday after some House Republicans raised issue with the legislation’s impact on people who wear masks for health reasons.

The state House voted not to accept changes made to the bill by the state Senate that would remove a pandemic-era masking exemption for health purposes.

Aside from the health exemption removal, the bill would enhance penalties for people who wear masks while committing a crime and for people who block roadways during a demonstration. The bill comes, in part, as a response to widespread college protests, including on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s campus, about the war in Gaza.

The House’s vote means the legislation will head to a team of lawmakers to negotiate revisions to it.

Rep. Erin Pare, the only Republican who represents part of Wake County, posted on the social platform X over the weekend saying she opposed the bill’s removal of the health exemption — a law passed along mostly bipartisan lines during the start of the pandemic in 2020. The bill as written has already caused confusion for the public, she said.

“The right thing to do here is to add back the deleted provisions regarding medical masking and give the public clarity on the issue,” she wrote.
Due to the GOP’s slim supermajority in both chambers, the party needs every Republican vote to secure the bill’s passage, or it could fail.

House Speaker Tim Moore told reporters after the vote that he understood why the Senate proposed its changes to the bill, but there was interest in the House to draft language to maintain health and safety protections for masking.

Before Pare took her stance publicly, many Senate Democrats repeatedly echoed concerns that immunocompromised people could be targeted for wearing a mask in public. Republican supporters have said the bill’s intention isn’t to criminalize masking for health reasons but rather to stop people from concealing their identity while committing a crime.

Legislative staff said in a Senate committee last week that masking for health purposes would violate the proposed law.
