Fortunately as Taiwan's country becomes more entwined with mainland China it is very unlikely that there will be a war as Taiwan gradually becomes a defacto or actual part of China, much as our neo-cons and fellow travellers might like. Boo hoo what will our military industrial complex do?

    Wake up sheeple.

But, yea, the world didn’t exactly end when we lost Vietnam and it became communist.

If the CCP takes over Taiwan most Americans wouldn’t even know it.

and before people start telling me about microchips, yea, that concern is rapidly becoming obsolete. It’s not like Taiwan is some microchip sanctuary where only microchips can only be produced in Taiwan.

it's about shipping, not microchips, and the longterm security of The Philippines, Japan, and South Korea, which becomes much less certain with the loss of Taiwan.

Just like construction companies are making big mooolah from infrastructure spending......

Crazy how spending money and making money on prudent endeavors is twisted into some negative thing.

So because the USSR collapsed.... China isn't a threat?

If China were to attack before this wave of new semiconductor manufacturing comes online outside of Taiwan then we would certainly feel it....

Also currently the world's busiest shipping lanes are more under US/Western control... you don't think that would cause another round of high inflation like Covid if all of sudden imports from Asia become more expensive?

“Shipping lanes” is simply the new talking point since Microchips is fading from relevancy fast.

Yea, we’ve all seen the YT videos about it. Calm down Peter Zeihan.

If China had naval bases on Taiwan tomorrow international trade would still occur.

Oh, no, people were absolutely talking about microchips 6 months ago and not shipping lanes.

Shipping lanes is just the new talking point now that the microchips problem is fading from relevancy.

International shipping and trade will still occur if China takes over Taiwan.

I find it interesting you're skeptical about public narratives being fed to you while believing that the "microchips problem" will be a non-issue because you were told it wouldn't after gifting that Starving Semiconductor Industry hundreds of billions in subsidies over 5-10 years.

    Carry on. :)

So apparently the latest talking point from the Isolationist wing is the PRC taking over Taiwan is no big deal. Lately that hasn't worked out so well for the people of Hong Kong and what they PRC is doing in Hong Kong is what we can expect if they were to get control of Taiwan.

And that is control Taiwan by peaceful means. If it was war it would devastate the global economy. We got a taste of that when we saw massive problems with supply chains during the pandemic.

Trade/shipping lanes/economics has always been a talking point and is a major part of the larger geopolitical picture. China isn't just trying to take back Taiwan, but expand it's territory in the Pacific.

No one is claiming international trade will stop, it would just require a chaotic and pricey adjustment period that would surely cause inflation. Like it or not the Cold War is back, Cold War 2.0, and China is certainly trying to carve up the world like any historical up and coming superpower.
