I have little hope for Jalen and almost the same with Jabari. Unless there is behind-the-scenes stuff the general public isn't aware of about Zion, Pels would be insulted by the offer.

...or DD instantly becomes a target because he is apparently the only one who wants him aside from SoFs willing to trade Jalen for literally anything at all - even for the guy least serious about basketball in the whole league. ...there are some real clowns around here.

I don’t think I’d trade the 3 for Zion straight up, he’s just not healthy enough

Yeah i dont really get the general sentiment of this thread, I understand the flaws but it seems to be way overblown in this thread, as if Zion didn't play more games than Booker and Mitchelll (27% more games than Donovan) this year, the two other guys who have been discussed on the forum as hypothetical trades. Zion played the same exact amount of games as Luka and Maxey this season, you dont see people complaining about them.

Is $40M a year for 3 years really that big of a risk when you are talking about a 23 year old with his talent? It is essentially a FVV or Kyrie Irving type contract, but with very heavy incentives that can make him non guaranteed any remaining year. Given that Luka is eligible for a 5 year fully guaranteed $345M extension this summer, star players are only going to command more, pretty soon rotational guys are going to be getting paid $30m a year.

"Zion Williamson, who signed a stipulation-laden maximum contract extension with the Pelicans in the summer of 2022, has already triggered a clause that has made the final three seasons of the extension non-guaranteed, according to The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov.
Williamson can, however, potentially get all of that money guaranteed again. It's complicated. But here's what happened and how it reportedly works:

    • Last season, Williamson needed to miss fewer than 23 games to avoid his 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 salaries becoming non-guaranteed. He missed 53 games.
    • If Williamson passes six "weigh-in-checkpoints" during the 2024-25 season -- to pass, his body fat percentage and weight must add up to no more than 295 (i.e. if he weighs in at 285 pounds, he cannot exceed 10% body fat ) -- then 20% of his 2025-26 salary will become guaranteed.
    • If he plays in at least 41 games in 2024-25, another 40% of his 2025-26 salary will become guaranteed. If he plays in at least 51 games, another 20% would be guaranteed on top of that. If he plays in at least 61 games (and doesn't violate the weight clause), then his entire 2025-26 salary will be guaranteed.
    • The above markers are the same for the years that follow. In other words, by being available and passing the weight check-ins, he can guarantee his salary for the next season.
    • If Williamson has significant issues with his surgically repaired fifth metatarsal in his right foot (i.e. "a fracture or a stress injury to that bone or the healed callus" or "what the contract calls a 'hardware failure' related to the previous injury," per The Athletic) this season, then half of his 2024-25 salary will become non-guaranteed. "

One of the most team friendly contracts for a super star in NBA history, he can essentially become non guaranteed any folllowing season if he has issues from his previous injury, doesn't play enough games, is overweight, etc. He played 70 games, the same as Luka, Maxey, Lebron etc. People here are over reacting.

Zion eats the whole Buffet and Women. Houston will be worse for him. Zion is a Food and Women Addict.

Anyone who is that quick to dismiss a Zion deal without even talking about price

1.) doesn't know his contract terms
2.) doesn't know his contract terms.

New Orleans made out like bandits signing Zion to this deal, the fact people here think they would trade him for a bag of chips is ridiculous.

No way. As great as he could be, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference if he can't stay healthy. You can't rely on the dude, so what's the point?

The reigning 3X MVP doesn't seem to really care either, he seems to be more into his horses.

And how many games did he play the year before? How about the year before that?

Pelicans have played 5 play-in games and 10 playoff games in Zion’s career. Wanna tell us how many of those Zion’s participated in? Just one, and of course he got injured in it.

You’re comparing him to Lebron, Luka, and Maxey? They are in different stratospheres when it comes to availability. That’s like comparing an apple to a baguette

I want him even more now, he is better than anyone we have and is WAY BETTER - you take risks on talent and he has hall of fame talent.

23 years old with Ime...yes please....

How many players that were drafted #1 overall and were good enough to get a full max rookie extension did so on a deal where every single year they have to requalify for the following year to be guaranteed? You guys are acting like any deal for Zion is a non starter, without even looking at his contract. It is the first of its kind. You can not say it is a different stratosphere when he played the same number of regular season games as them, it is a comparison to highlightout how extreme the views are on here, obviously Luka and Maxey are not exact comps, but that is an outright exaggeration to say it is not in the same stratosphere.

    Luka - 70
    Zion - 70
    Maxey - 70
    Booker - 68
Donovan - 55, missed crucial playoff games and eliminated as a result

He is also 23, seems like 80%+ of the people would not trade for Zion for anything, I think it is worth a look to see what the price is considering the weight clause, hardware clause, and the games played clauses in his contract that reset every year.

He played a similar amount of regular season games as them for 1 year. Zion has been in the league for 5 years. Compare him to them going back more than just this past season and it will become obvious why the comparison to those guys doesn’t hold any weight and why he got a contract like that and none of them would ever have to. We all know what his contract is, and it’s the 1st of its kind for a reason.

Zion regular season games - 21, 64, missed the whole season, 29, 70…played in just 1 of his team’s 15 combined play-in and playoff games

none of that applies to Bron, Luka, Maxey, etc…they are not even in the same universe when it comes to availability

Zion is 23, and his knees are going on 30

if he can be had for peanuts then sure…I doubt the Pelicans are to the point where they would just give him away for nothing if he even is actually available
