I had nothing against Abreu the person. Though if he in essense lied keeping his injury secret allowing himself to be an everyday sinkhole, the team doesnt owe him anything back.

But this move can hasten his way out too. Pressure test with a 6 level jump, but without being on the club. And if its nowhere near MLB ready, nail in coffin

I'd love to see Bagwell teaching Loperfido how to play 1B

Let him try to hit >.400 wOBA over 100 PA in AAA at the very least, and if he can't do that, cut ties. A AAAA player like Singleton should be able to do that and he's the bar.

This is simple, if after his stint in SL the Astros decide to bring him back

Whoever in the front office agrees to him coming back to the roster should have their job on the line.

I don't care if it's Brown or a scout or Bagwell or Enos Cabell or Dickie Thon or whoever the F it is, if you agree to him coming back and his OPS isn't at least 750 after his first 50 at bats, Buh Bye

Technically Abreu is the one who had to agree to go to the minors. He could, at any point, declare he’s done with that and the Astros would have to either put him back on the roster or DFA him since he’s not hurt.

Now if he fails again, theres no doubt they’ll DFA him. This is a last ditch effort to salvage something. But regardless, they can’t just keep him in the minors forever.

    Sad...

Unless he kills it when he plays again (doubtful).

It is a shame he gets a 5th chance when Pedro Leon has yet to get first. And Loperfido is probably sent down for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

This has to be one of the worst contracts of all time in MLB. They signed a "star" who became the the worst player in baseball. Essentially, they payed millions for nothing.

Worse than nothing actually. He's actively hurt the ball club with his negative WAR

Abreu was the worst player in the starting lineup in AAA tonight. Id rather see any one of the other guys in the lineup, starting with Leon all the way down to Berry Hill.

I'm not sure it makes the top 20

    But yes, it's bad.

eta, off the top of my head:

Rendon, Stanton, Baez, Strasburg, Chris Davis, Bryant, Carl Crawford, Sandoval, Sale

Have you seen the Strasburg and Rendon contracts? This one is no where near as bad.
