Politicians lie all the time, but Trump really takes it to a different sphere. Lying while thinking he’s in bed with a dictator is something else. Is this what Trump supporters love him for?
It is beyond lying. What Trump does is create an alternate reality, and fantasy. Him, and his cult know that what they say that they repeat from him is not actually true. However how they identify dictates that they state the fantasy/lie that aligns to their narrative story they tell themselves, and demand that everyone else believe. Your life, and everything you identify as cannot exist if you allow facts to get in the way of your fantasy. You are the hero of your own story, and everyone else that isn't in your cult is the enemy, and everything is a conspiracy to bring you down. Trump isn't a master of lies. He's a fantasy writer, and his followers are simply choosing to live their actual real lives within that fantasy.... to the detriment of themselves, and everyone else in reality when the fantasy has actual ramifications.
An alternate reality can be your real reality too, when you truly believe in it. Reality, after all, is your interpretation of your senses with mental overlay or processing on top. "The election was stolen" is a reality for many of these folks. "Biden is not running the show" is another. "The deep state is after Trump" is another consistent one. "The Biden admin is assassinating Trump" is a new and growing one. The list goes on and on. So, do they actually know what they say is not actually true? No, many of them believe these made-up reality and fantasy, unfortunately. And the really unfortunate thing is that the leaders of the Republican party and most of their members, who do know, are playing the game. They are dumbing down and stupefying the public, and it is very effective. We are so much worse off for it. It's sad what this nation is becoming because, while Trump is a problem, better-educated men who can perserve reality are too greedy to do so, with great harm to our society.
