Jeff Bagwell Ego in being correct. Back of a Baseball Card Metaphor. Jose Abreu Concussion by being hit by a baseball 2 seasons made him decline, plus his body broke down. Back, Knee, Shaking his hand after hitting a Fly out, Arthritis maybe. Whoever did Jose Abreu Physical either got overruled by Jeff Bagwell as a Dictator or he was a Bad Physician before signing the Huge Contract.
That’s really ****ing sad if it’s what caused his rapid decline. When did the hpb and collision happen?
It’s unfortunate that Abreu has declined, and that the Astros paid him all that money getting only a shell of the former MVP.
I feel bad for the guy, but he is being called back up on Friday and I don't know why you would mess with a good thing, Singleton is doing an OK job compared to Jose...............its not like the dude isn't going to get his $$$ but what are you going to do give him a few weeks to see if he`s "back"..........give him mop up duty for now, don't make changes just to accommodate him, not wanting to sound harsh but you never take out someone who is doing OK for someone who has been a black hole at their position
They’re really bringing him back Friday because he’s hitting FCL pitching? The FO can’t be this stupid
The video says 2 years ago. He hasn't been the same since after the HBP during the White Sox and after signing with the Astros. Should've done a CAT Scan on his Brain and Body for his Physical. Just Horrible.
On the day of the collision (May 14, 2021): .240/.333/.457/.791 Post collision (through July 31):.247/.335/.450/.785 No discernible difference. HBP occurs July 31, 2021 From Aug 1- Oct 2: .291/.379/.529/.908 2022 season: .304/.378/.446/.824 All these internet detectives need to touch grass. His "rapid decline" is because he's old. Period.
This seems like the most obvious thing. And the most discouraging as you don’t magically get younger taking a few weeks off. He clearly had some back issues last season which are likely contributing. Even if his back is better having compensated for an entire year throws other things out of whack. The optimist would say with rest, maybe he can have a few good stretches. The realist says chronic back problems don’t get better as you get older.
His trip to the FCL was voluntary. He had the right to refuse and the right to demand a 26 man spot. He does not have the right to an active role on the team. That is the bottom line. If he is incapable of at least neutral value our last options are to trade him, buy him out, or live with him on the bench and in the clubhouse till his contract is over.
Good. If he can hit at AAA I'll feel a little better, but I'm pretty sure he's coming back soon even if he doesn't hit at all.
I get the feeling the way the timing is . . . this was all a predetermined timeframe. Likely Abreu agreed to take a break with a promise of a limited timeframe. There's just no reason he's shown or that they need for this not to be predetermined from the start.
From Practice to Jumping 6 Levels to AAA is insane. How about he retires. Yankees and Last Year Josh Donaldson, continuing to play over Younger Players because of money is ridiculous. Jose Abreu doesn't belong on the Astros Roster or Bench.
In today's FCL game, Abreu homered... and also grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and nobody out.
