Trading back never works out. The one time it came out in favor of the team moving back, they moved back from #1 to #3 (where we’re picking), so they still got the better player (Tatum). We probably couldn’t do that moving back to #7.

Totally. And even in the Tatum trade, the RFP the Celtics picked up really didn't amount to much (Romeo Langford). The Celtics did it because they were taking Tatum no matter what. Trading back makes much more sense in the NFL. In the NBA, it's just not worth it given roster dynamics.

How could you listen to Stone and Udoka talk about this and not understand we barely want one pick much less two?

Trading back makes no sense, we don’t need more youth. Either pick highest upside dude or trade out entirely.

Once again...the Rockets need quality not quantity!
We already have enough talented young people to develop.
    Stop!

Spurs not gonna do that . They aren't hunting for a high high pick. They want to set up wemby up with good supporting cast.. so they gonna draft both picks unless they trade for an allstar

I would probably do it, as I said in the other thread, just for the chance to draft Devin Carter at an appropriate position and get value back. I think I might rather target getting one pick later in this draft plus a future pick (maybe protected?), though.

Stone/Witus? I've never in clutchfans history heard anyone mention Stone/Witus when something goes wrong, just Rafael Stone. Does Witus get blow back from anything?

We are not close to being done with the rebuild. Coach can want to hurry the rebuild for his personal reasons but it hurts the team long term. At least 2 more seasons are needed. He knew what he was signing up for. We need lower level contributors and to move some of the players that aren’t longer term. ie Brooks, Tate even FVV and the like. We are very much in transition and not close to contending. The back half of the rotation needs to be churned. Role players on minimal team friend contracts are key as we start to max out our future stars. The goal is to draft them not pay for them. We need to think about 3 years from now not just tomorrow.

    Just a different perspective.

That would be nice but they won’t do it.

If you can turn the no3 pick into long term, cheap upgrades for the likes of Holilday, Tate, Adams, that is not the worst haul. That's not what you want in a normal year, but we need to make the best of the situation. Then again, Sheppard could still be there at 7... who knows with this draft?

It's almost like it is a curse they got the third pick this year because if the lottery got us the 8th pick for example, good chance a guy that can be useful like Reed would still be on the board and we wouldn't feel bad about drafting him at 8th instead of 3rd.

This year’s draft lacks top tier talent.

It is like a regular year’s mid first round talent, say picks 10-20, is now at the top of the draft.

If the Rockets see a regular draft’s mid round talent in picks 1-20 in this year’s draft, they might be enticed to trade. The Rockets have been abled to find hidden gems in picks 10-20 like Sengun, Eason and Whitmore. I suspect that this is where their analytics department shines.

WRT trading #3 for #7 and #14, it will depend who is available at those picks. Both teams will need to get whom they want.
