    Want a conspiracy theory? He was killed by the Iranian government because he was cultivating a resume as the spiritual successor to the current Ayatollah. But the Ayatollah wants his son to succeed him. And the trump card Raisi could have was a backdoor deal with the Americans for normalization. But the Ayatollah said no. And it was off with his head.

    I don't know how I missed this, but not just the president of Iran, but also the foreign minister - 2 very key as.sholes in the IR leadership likely gone

    I am hopeful that this does not devolve into any actual chaos because you're absolutely right.

    While it is speculation, I do wonder if this was just bad luck vs maleficence by someone who wanted him dead.
