I jumped the gun on wanting you fired Joe. Team seems to be pumped up and playing hard. Good for you. Now if the Astros lose 6 or 7 in a row, it's a different story.
The perception of our manager can change week to week. Same with some of our players. Its the "what have you done for me lately" syndrome the permeates all of sports and much of society as a whole.
I'm glad we won. Arrighetti, Brown, and others have struggled and desperately need good outings and confidence but Espada refuses to give it to them. I have no baseball training or experience but I know to not let that happen. "Great 6 innings, Rook. Now go on out for the 7th and take your kick to the nuts." I wanted Espada ( for years) to manage this team but I was absolutely wrong. He does not belong managing an MLB team. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES
He was going on in the post-game about Spaghetti's confidence... that he potentially ruined bringing him back out for the 7th. It's a theme of the season for pitching, good outing ruined by foolishly stretching one inning too many, both SP and bullpen
It was already questionable to throw Arrighetti in the 7th -- but not having a guy warming is borderline sabotage. Dude's ERA jumped 75 points
It's the same thing I was screaming at Dusty for w/ Brown last year. How hard is it? BLACK AND WHITE WITHOUT EXCEPTION 1) if your name is not Framber you do not start a game and get to pitch to a batter with someone on base in the 6th inning or later. EVER. PERIOD. 2) the long man is the only RP who should ever be allowed to face a hitter a 2nd time in the same game and then only before the 7th inning or if the result has already been determined by big lead or deficit.
Problem is two-fold. Pitching coach should have gone after the first 3 run homer. He waited til 2 more runners had reached base. Other is…no one up in the pen?
