The overwhelming likelihood is that injuries or underperformance will create multiple holes in the pitching staff between now and when Garcia is ready to return.
I think they are unofficially already doing this, he's the least used reliever by appearences and is still one IP behind Bielak.
The Astros have never traded away key pieces of their team while in contention, and its unlikely they will start now. Counting on a bunch of injured guys who haven't pitched in a year to fill the role of high-leverage playoff reliever when you actually have an elite high-leverage playoff reliever is one of those decisions that gets people fired if it doesn't work out. Barring extended injury, there's zero chance Pressly doesn't get to 50 games pitched this season - at least not unless you plan to play Hader 80 or 90 times.
That's only because all the bullpen pitchers are on pace for some crazy number of appearances because the SP has been bad. A day ago, Pressly was tied with Hader for appearances and everyone has complained all season about how overused Hader is.
Yep. People are reading quite a bit into Pressly not pitching the 8th last night but that was most likely because Espada didn’t want to pitch Hader back to back after how much he pitched last week and figured he could save Pressly for the 9th tonight.
Sure. Which is the problem with how far we’ve buried ourselves meaning that could sink us if it all happens again. Really at the end of the day we have got to get rid of the uncompetitive starts. I don’t care who does that for us but it’s near impossible to rip off a hot streak with that happening on the regular.
Jake Meyers is on a 6+ fwar full season pace on a per inning/per plate appearance basis. Even on his part-time playing pace, he’s projected for 2.5 fwar. Very underrated player at this point. Jeremy Pena, Yainer Diaz, and Jake Meyers are on pace to combine for 9 fwar.
Not unless he somehow sucks the life out of Jake Meyers or Pena or the now healthy starting pitching… This team has yet to hit on all cylinders and is still right there in striking distance. Should be pretty scary for the rest of the league presuming they continue to get more pitchers back than losing them.
Do not understand bringing Abreu back. They owe him money, not playing time. They sent him out and they started winning and his replacement has been productive. Why take the chance of embarrassing him even more while costing the team wins?
After avoiding the sweep against NYY, I said I wasn't going to perk up on this team unless they won the next two series. Well, they won the next three, one of which a 4 game sweep. I'm perked up. Keep it up boys.
