I agree with the sentiment that Sarr and Sengun can't coexist long term unless one of them develops a respectable outside shot(a common refrain around Sengun conversations). Its all the more exacerbated by the presence(and general effectiveness) of Amen Thompson. Personally I'm not entirely convinced Sengun is the guy we should be building around but can't argue with the fact that he is our best player today and probably the only guy in the wings deserving of that title until Jalen Green develops some consistency....but that's also why I'm advocating for more of a "wait to talk extensions until later in the year if not this offseason" because I think there are still some growth areas for both players that we would like to see before making a long term commitment. Sengun develops some range OR takes a step defensively - I'm A LOT more excited about his future than I am today.

I just think you get yourself into trouble when your best player has significant limitations to the point that you have real roster constraints around who you can put them on the court with. Defensive versatility and the offensive spacing with Sengun only being effective in the paint really makes it a lot tougher to build a long term roster around Sengun that hides his flaws because versatile defensive players who can shoot are the most expensive type of role player to acquire(and the most hard to get). it's just a shame that we jump into a top 3 pick in perhaps one of the weakest drafts for shooting in a long while. Any other year and we maybe have more flexibility around choosing a good compliment to Sengun but this year it's undersized Reed or bust(go an entirely different direction from a Sengun offense with another player...and frankly none of those players are in this draft)

To be fair the proposals involving Sengun is never about the replacement. As long as you can somehow play center, that’s enough. The athletic Bruno Fernando is good enough.

Dude is way too caught up in building for the prototype.

Alperen Sengun is a special, special player. If you can't see it, you can't see it.

We are talking about a kid that could potentially be a 28-12-8 on a nightly basis... He is euro-Zion that is a good teammate and a hard worker. Embrace him... :D

I want a Sarr, Sengun, and Smith front court
Sengun will bring out the shot next year

I'm very skeptical that this could happen without trading Jabari, BUT if this did happen, the rebuild would be over. It'd be all development from then on. Draft/trade for a shooter mid to late rounds if you want.

I like Sengun - he is the best player on this team....but there is literally nothing about him anywhere remotely like Zion at all.

If you can't see (past the stat lines) ,then you can't see it....

Yes, it takes some nuance and experience to see Alperen’s talent. Like Kobe vs Ginobili…

Zion’s traits are rather obvious. Good for the simpletons.

    Hence: “Euro-Zion”

I see what you are saying. I don't think "Euro-Zion" got the point across but I certainly understand where you were going now that you gave an explanation. As a kid growing up outside of San Antonio, Ginobili was my favorite non Rocket player. I like Sengun and I see the similarities between both as high level processors of the game but I also have nuance in spades and Ginobili had a Larry Bird level to him where he had an instinct for the moment and went out and got that crucial steal at the right time or hit that dagger three to stop a run. I haven't seen that quality at all with Sengun but at a high level I see the value of Sengun being a center on a high bball IQ team like the Spurs did.

I actually think Sengun reminds me more of a guy like Pau Gasol (with prime Boris Diaw's connective big man passing) than anything. I know a lot of people will scoff at it, because those aren't very sexy comps but both were key pieces to very good teams...and Gasol was a perennial All Star but was never the best player on a serious title team and that's my point with Sengun. He can absolutely be a perennial All Star, but that doesn't mean you build a team around him - that's why it didn't work out in Memphis for Gasol but he was able to contend in San Antonio and LA with teams built around other stars.

When it comes to Sarr, does anyone know why he played so few minutes per game? Was it a conditioning issue?

    I mostly agree!

I am not positive that Alperen is a "franchise" player, but I do think he is 100% a "foundational" player. Most of that stems from my belief in his talent, intelligence, and work ethic.

Even I would rather have Sengun this isn't even a question.

Chet or Sengun is a real question.

    Why not both?

This is why I wanted Chet so bad last season.
    Perfect compliment to Alp.

Sarr isn't a perfect complement to Alp Jabari is already the perfect complement to Alp. Sarr is like a 27% 3 pt shooter in a worse league than NBA. Right now you can argue Sengun is the better shooter between the 2 of them.

Edit: Sorry I guess you were saying Chet is the perfect complement to Sengun not Sarr. But my point still stands if we got Sarr he will just be a backup.

You know what they say about the bird in hand vs in the bush.

Y'all realize all these allowances we are making for JG also apply to Sengun right? This is also the first time he has had a competent coach who challenged him to play winning basketball. In fact he has had a bigger struggle than Green cuz he had to deal with a foreign language, adjust to living in the US and this is only his 2nd full season as a starter.

Honestly it is an insult to Sengun we even have this thread. Sengun held his own vs AD, Jokic, Sabonis. He even dominated and humiliated Wemby in their matchup. What has Sarr done so far? Get mins in Australia league? Lol.

This really is the only thing that is important to understand. Basketball is a team game. Having a perennial all-star at center is a building block. All the talk about who is the best on the team is superfluous. We have an incredible core that we can build around. We don’t have to build around one or even two players. All five positions and the bench are important to winning a championship.
