The ads that show up ....is too scary.

    here's an example:
walked into nutrition depot (didn't search it on google maps) two days ago.
talked about protein with the guy. he mentioned a few brands.
    bought one, left.

today: the exact product he mentioned is an ad on the reddit app.

I didn't search anything on google search, maps or even texted it to anyone.

Your location data is getting sold
and you are not getting a cut of the profit.

    1) Did you use your phone at all while in/around the store?

    2) Did you pay cash?

Made a facetime call to show the various protein options to someone.

    Paid via Apple Pay.

Sounds like electronic records to me.

All of that information is packaged and sold to marketers.

It must be Apple. Who knows what all we agree to in the terms/conditions.

Their device. Their operating system. I am too busy looking for apps that are culprits but its built in..

I have an android. The lady wanted me to take her to buy a ladder at home depot yesterday. She paid. I didn't look up ladders or anything on my device.

Next day a sponsored ad for ladders from home depot pops up on my IG feed

Yes, they've been doing this for years. I notice it all the time.

You have been compromised. Throw your phone into the next available body of water, i.e., cup of water, toilet or bayou.

Pretty sure that all the Zuckerberg apps eavesdrop on us.

Recently, my wife said something to me about a slow cooker or something...something I have never thought about or cared about in my whole life. Suddenly, I started getting Instagram ads for that stuff.

Even without eavesdropping, tracking data can show so much. The lady was probably searching for ladders on her phone for the last couple of days. When you drove her to Home Depot, tracking data showed that your phone and her phone were in close proximity together going to a home improvement store. So advertising algorithms likely indicated that you have a higher than normal chance of buying a ladder in the near future.

    Big data is big money.

Remember all those app permissions... Angry Flappy Turds requires permission to use: camera, contacts, microphone, keyboard, files, media, location, call logs, system settings, etc.

I turn off mic permissions for almost everything. nothing seems to help with these very targeted ads.

I was playing with my baby boy and he was going "ba ba ba ba", so I started singing Barbara Ann from the Beach Boys like in Surf Ninjas. The next day, my Facebook popped up with a Surf Ninjas post. Freaky.
