Okay, a few years ago I made a post about Green Day and basically got trashed for it, but I don't care. The "American Idiot" album is freaking brilliant! I can't wait to get the real deal on Tuesday when it comes out. It's a rock opera that kind of comments on the political climate in the country today, but the band doesn't throw their beliefs in your face. Most of you will probably dismiss any attempt of Green Day being semi-political, but I really believe that "American Idiot" is one of the most creative pieces of mainstream (especially mainstream punk rock) music I've heard in my lifetime. Plus the album cover is really cool! My favorite songs are "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Holiday," and "Wake Me Up When September Ends."
I disagree with them politically. They drive me insane that they admittedly don't know dick about politics but still come out with an opinion and sway the minds of kids. I hate that. It makes me sick. I wish they would shut the f up. Oh, by the way, they are also hands down my favorit band. They have not put a song out that I don't love, lyrics and politics be damned. American Idiot is right in line with their other stuff and I love it. They could come out singing about how Repbulicans should all commit mass suicide and there I would be at the concert singing along with them. i freaking love them.
Chance-- I hope you've written them a series of fan letters detailing your fandom just as you have here. You will make your way into a music video I bet.
Hey I leave politics out of my music! Except for the McGrady Song. "Tracy, TRacy, Tracy, Tra--cy - Chaney, Tracy" No I am an enigma. all of my favorite bands freaking hate the president and people that vote like me. Oh well...I keep buying their stuff.
American Idiot is a great single but the Cd gets a bit repititious. I uh, sampled it a couple of weeks ago...but didn't keep it.
Just watched the video after I saw this thread. It is a rocking tune. I might have to pick this album up to see what else it has to offer. Lyrics : Don't want to be an American idiot. Don't want a nation that under the new media. And can you hear the sound of hysteria? The subliminal mind**** America. Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Well that's enough to argue. Well maybe I'm the f***** America. I'm not a part of a redneck agenda. Now everybody do the propaganda. And sing along in the age of paranoia. Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Well that's enough to argue. Don't want to be an American idiot. One nation controlled by the media. Information age of hysteria. It's going out to idiot America. Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Well that's enough to argue.
A lot of conservative and moderate voters would say the same thing. Just because we're not completely liberal doesn't mean we only listen to country. I don't agree with the politics of most of my favorite bands, but it doesn't bother me that I buy their music. Because their music is what I respect. You can't expect everybody to agree with you anyway. I do appreciate and consider what they have to say, and I have the courtesy to not let differences of opinion get in the way of my appreciation for their music; if I was the one putting out the records, I would hope they would feel the same way. (though who knows - they might find out that I voted Republican once and decide to boycott me ) Of course, if they're putting out an album or concert with the express purpose of "anti-Bush" then I probably won't be paying for that particular thing. Not because I love Bush that much, but because it's so negative in tone and attitude. These days, it's not about "why we love Kerry/Edwards" but about being against the current administration - without being for something else instead.
Public opinion is a heavy stone to influence. Artist are allowed to present radicalized ideas because they seem to bounce off the stone like tiny pebbles. (but every action has a reaction)
I really resent having it shoved in my face though. They should just shut up and sing (a non-political song). It's funny how artists who have made a damn good living thanks to the American public are now insulting half the country.
The song sucks pretty bad, they haven't been good in years. How do you think it feels to be a neo-con who listens to nothing but hip-hip?
