Team is playing better, 8-6 over the last 14 games. Doesn't feel like it because they dug such a deep hole. We finally have our starters back, hopefully Urquidy is added in the next week or 2. Consistent competitive pitching will right the ship in a hurry.
It has and always will be the pitching. More weeks with Framber, JV and Blanco starting consecutively will be a very good thing. Thanks goodness for Blanco and not sure why this BBS’ dissection/analysis of every Bagwell only move, Crane only move, Brown only move doesn’t give the Blanco decision/resurgence enough credit.
Anyone heard from or care about 19.5? I’d hate for this team to get on a roll only to hear 19.5 is ready to return….
Combo of guys needing rest and guys needing to play. Dubon, Singleton, and Meyers are all playing well which limits opportunities for Cabbage, Loperfido, Kessinger, and Caratini. And Loperfido and Cabbage need to be playing pretty regularly to see if they’re any good.
10-3 over their next 13 is a reasonable expectation if they’re going to get back into the mix. That would put them at 25-28 heading into a series in Seattle. 4-9 or worse over that stretch and the season is almost certainly over. Between 5-8 and 7-6 keeps them in desperation mode. 8-5 or 9-4 has them still back a ways but the momentum would be very positive. 10-3 or better and they will be red hot and back in the post season conversation.
A little spark of hope. I'll take it. My guess is that the manager has been read the riot act and is shaking up the lineup as directed.
Is Jon really playing well? Abreu was so bad I guess anything not totally awful seems good He is actually hitting .194 since he took over on an every day basis. I mean the 4 HR are nice, and he walks a lot but it only gets his on base up to .303 We really need to find a 1B if we are going to legitimately get back in this
I was quoting his numbers since he took over full time And agree about pitching, it’s always the biggest factor But Jon simply isn’t a good MLB 1B I was gonna compare him to Chris Carter, but going back and looking at the numbers, Carter was way better I would take his .222 with 41 HR right now for sure
In May he’s hitting .232/.326/.472. That slash line over 2023 would have put him around guys like Pete Alonso, Vlad Jr, Nathaniel Lowe, Paul Goldschmidt, and Lamonte Wade as league average 1B. That’s a quality middle of the order hitter for league minimum salary. Singleton has played his way into an everyday job and until he slumps there are many other issues for Houston to address before they look at 1B.
