**** your rebuild. Even if the season continues to go down in flames, which I believe it will, there are still plenty of very good players on the roster and it doesn't make sense to me to blow that up. Fire Stooge Espada, preferably right ****ing now, but definitely in the offseason, and run this **** back with a real manager. Kinda like when the Red cocks had Bobby freaking Valentine torpedo a season, fired him, got a real manager, and won the WS the next year.
I feel sorry for Altuve right now. He's playing so great, and we just keep losing. He needs his teammates to step up and play like they are capable of.
I've been to three games this year and they've won in blow outs 10-0, 9-2 and 8-2; twice they've come back down 0-2 early against TEX and CLEV and I'm like this is the turn around game only to be let down the next game or two. At this point I just hope they win a few games here and there, I'm over the angry stage and just depressed. Even more depressing is we booked a trip to Seattle at the end of the month and already purchased tix for two of those games against the Ms, thankfully there are casinos in WA if they continue to play like trash. If anyone else is going hit me up and we can drown our tears together.
We still have over 2.5+ months before trade deadline. Crane/Brown don’t need to blow up this team yet. But he should consider letting Espada (and Miller) go immediately if we lose today. I hope our FO had a contingency plans to replace Espada and hope Ausmus is not one of them. If Ausmus replaced Espada, this franchise is a lost cause for years to come.
Good. Dude thought one good juiced ball season and he think he's a world class 3rd baseman. Life hits you like a truck.
The Astros and Marlins have discussed Jake Burger and Trevor Rogers going to Houston. No idea what you want to read into that.
Meh. Per 162 games he has averaged an 850 OPS and 5.5 WAR a season. He is on pace for a close to Hall of Fame career. I get it - he had a great Spring and has sucked this year and we are 11 games under .500% - but Bregman has been legitimate in his career so far. I don't know that I am giving him 150 million like some speculate - but he has been the real deal so far as a professional ball player.
Rogers was badass in 2021 but has been ineffective and hurt since. He is making $1.5M and has 2 more years of control after this season. Burger was great last season but bad before that and bad again this season before he got hurt. He is controlled thru 2028. Both guys would be projects and shouldn’t cost a ton. Rogers would at least be a currently healthy arm. Interestingly, both guys have options remaining so they could be sent to the minors if needed.
Looks at Rogers ERA. He'll fit right in lol. They Must really like Burger. You mentioned him in the past. I also looked at his stats and not pretty. Unless both players are having bad luck.
They liked Burger last year as well. He has around a career OPS of 800 with power. He can also play third base and 1st base adequately. He is also price controlled and like you said, has options. Honestly, I had forgotten about Rogers after a really strong season a few years ago. My guess is they either see something promising or they think he can give them more competitive innings. As for cost - I was told that it would possibly be someone on the existing MLB roster but most likely AAA or AA talent leaving.
Burger isn't a world beater but he has almost an 800 career OPS and was really strong last year and was injured to start this season. He also can play 1st and third base at minimal cost and is under team control for years..... first and third are areas of uncertainty in 2025.
If Miami would accept it, I would send Bregman back for those 2. We'd have to send salary relief as well, maybe Miami could straighten him out enough to flip him again in July. I just want him gone from the Astros.
We have the 4th worst record in the league, almost every team we play is going to have a better record. A lot of their records are because we are awful.
