My gut is to sign Bregman while he is struggling and get a better contract deal for his 31-34 seasons. I do t want him past those. He still has solid seasons ahead of him, just in a huge funk right now.
I agree that if you were going to do it, right now would probably be the time, but I personally wouldn't touch that bet for any serious amount of money. There are too many other things going wrong with them beyond the injuries and the schedule. Still though, if a person were of the mind to risk it, now would be a good opportunity. It's only money!
As soon as Tucker hit that HR, I told my boys "if we score any more runs, it will be in garbage time after we're inevitably down by 7."
it was way before that moment, all his arrogance and bombastic flair went into the the toilet after the scandal broke. No more bobsleding in the dugout after a homer, he just put his head down and played baseball and that doesn't feel like that's who he really is....now you can talk marriage and kids but that was very recent, I'm talking April 2020. I was actually more concerned with Dusty saying he'd take the mic when they won the ALCS and were headed to the WS.....dude, shut up
Yep. Soon as Tuck went yard my daughters said “Yay!”, I immediately responded “The Yankees will take the lead in the bottom of the inning and it’ll be a blowout.” My wife thinks I’m some kind of soothsayer.
Breggy has been in a funk for years, like since scandal broke out. Honestly, do we really want to give a struggling player 4-5 contract worth 20M-25M per year, even if it at a discounted deal. Either he signed QO with us or time to move on. I just hate seeing what Breggy has become as a player for us. He’s a good dude.
22-23 Bregman averaged 90 runs, 90 RBIs, 20 HRs and played over 150 games each of those seasons with a .360 OBA. I’m all for a 3-4 year deal. I still think he turns it around this year but maybe contract is stressing him out. Either way, I think he’s got 4 more seasons of good ball. Don’t want him at 35-40.
‘20 and ‘21 he wasn’t very good and also missed time with a hamstring injury. He was better in 22 and 23 but nothing like 18-19 bregman. Now he isn't very good again. If he can start hitting now we can chalk it up to a bad April.
My new evening routine is to angrily change the channel to 674 to see the score of the game, then change it anywhere else in disgust:
#MeToo I will add that my afternoon routine is to spend all day looking forward to the game thinking "THIS is the game we turn it all around. IT STARTS NOW." Then after 2 or 3 innings (sometimes just 1), I do exactly what you mention above. I will most likely do this routine every game day until we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
