Before the Astros can even contemplate playoffs, they need to set their goals on getting back to at least a .500 record. It’s not out of the realm of possibility the Astros can recover and gain lost ground, but it’s looking like getting back to .500 may end up being the goal of the season. The good thing is the Astros still have a lot of games vs. the divisional rivals.
Why no option for May 31? It will happen that quickly. The schedule is about to lighten up considerably. Buy in now fellas. Start placing those futures bets.
What would we possibly do without something to complain about? I get enough of that in politics so I like a heavy dose of optimism when I turn to sports. So I'll wait for June 20 (The first day of summer) until I pay attention to the standings for the Boys of Summer.
I thought about putting an option for May 31, but I figured the option of by June 30 covered it. So the options are meant to be .500 by or before that date.
After we get swept by NY, I feel like they will have their opportunity to do just this over the next 4 to 5 weeks. Get swept by NY, knock some heads, and get going!
Astros desperately need Urquidy, Garcia, and McCullers back. Hunter Brown and Areghetti need to be off the rotation and back in the minors for a complete recalibration of their mechanics. Both guys are guaranteed a pummeling by the opposing offensive team. I mean how can you spot any team a run per inning pitched by your starting pitcher. Even if these fellas were inning eater type of pitchers, which neither is; I don’t think there is any team in MLB history that is capable of producing 9-10 run against competent ML starters. Verlander, Valdez, Javier, McCullers, Garcia, Urquidy can get you to. 500; but will there be time to do so, I don’t even know when they are due back. And is Garcia out for the season or is he expected back at some point? Bregman should have taken the Astros contact, because he may end up like Dallas Keutchel, pricing himself into the delusional realm! This might be premature, but If the Astros run of dominance is to end this season, it was a beautiful run! Going to 4 World Series and winning 2 was magnificent. Houston won’t have to start all over, but they have their work cut out for them to seek out viable replacement guys.
A month of JV, Framber, Javier, and Blanco making 80% of the starts. Bregman, Diaz, and (now) Alvarez to find their stroke. Bullpen to do what they are paid to do. Hope this all starts coming together after this Yankees series.
I have one last gasp in me and it's the starters getting healthy and getting Brown and Spencer out of the rotation, they both have good stuff but there not starters yet but they could pitch in the pen, they need to work on location, they have the "stuff".......they keep getting pummeled like this and they will need to see a therapist. Yordan will get on track and I want to believe Breggy does to. We still have a black hole at first and our CF isnt very strong. Its so hard to watch when you get the **** kicked out of you in the first few innings and then they get hits but cant get them across the plate. Someone needs to light a fire under this team, show you care, throw a tantrum, break a bat......hell start a brawl but show me you care.
I thought they’d get to .500 by July. But there is a real possibility they can get there is month of June.
